Trying to change the rear sprocket , I've followed the instructions in the workshop manual , removed clip , nut , washers trying to remove the sprocket with the flange it won't come off , tried wd40 , prying , used mallet stuck on good and tight. Any tips ? Is heat the next option or soak over night in WD40. This is the bit i am trying to take off with the sprocket still attached as it seems to say in the manual and other threads you can do. Annoyed from Bristol , stupid bike
Thanks WD40 had the advantage of being next to me in the garage will look at plusgas. Would Thank you! So I thought too but it no slide off , it no pry off and even tapping followed by a little more persuasion hasn't moved it. Before anyone asks yes the big old nutt is off and the washers behind but sprocket wants to stay attached .

I was following this European Motorcycle Diaries: Changing Chain & Sprockets on a Ducati Multistrada 1200 but the workshop manual says the same . What I am trying to do was remove the sprocket and cover in one go. Given I've failed I'll try again removing the six bolts and cover . Try again in the morning if that fails it's heat!
Ok, so the cover and sprocket are still on the spindle? If so, back the chain off, mine wouldn't come off until I did that, then a little wiggling and pff it came. The you can get at the sprocket bolts etc and remove
Yes cover and sprocket are still on spindle , chain is completely off . I've tried wiggle , pry bar , and using a drift from behind tapping it and turning the wheel. Problem with this bike is it's been used year round through winters and done 47+ miles even though main dealer serviced I am finding out they may be tight on copper slip or the greasing of things . Thanks for the advice it is appreciated Chris
It's off at last , slide off I wish it took the below to get it off . Right new renthal alloy one going on ! N bvvbbvyvy q.
Weight difference for anyone that cares is below in pics 1278g to 775g now I am 3.5 stone overweight do will notice 2/3rds of fuck all difference but it looks nice so I like it
Does that need the carrier back on too? If not that's a kilo of insprung weight....people pay 2 grand for wheels to get that
775g includes the carrier . The difference is only 503grams but still a 60% saving . The advantage tho is cost a rear sprocket is now £35 and changed with six 18nm bolts. The problem now is I can't get front sprocket off close to pushing bike into sea. Cheers
For front sprocket lubricate overnight if possible. Tie rear brake pedal to centrestand tightly or get a friend with a heavy foot. Socket, breaker bar, and 3-4 foot of pipe over breaker bar, it will loosen. Or find friend or garage with impact wrench.
I'm just about to purchase new c & s I know It's a bit shallow but have you any photos of your sprocket and carrier in place, does it look good? Peter
I'm not with bike at the moment but this was on phone, I like it especially with gold chain on definately better . I can take better photos at weekend
Cheers for that, looks good if you get a chance to post a couple of the finished product I would appreciate . Did you give it much thought about Ali sprocket over a steel one? I'd be interested in yours or others thoughts, I maybe guilty over thinking it but that's me Peter
