Hi all further to my post on my engine rattle I have some sort of engine problem I rode my monster tonight for the first time It seemed to me like something was catching in the engine like a snatching sensation as I rode I didn't get it out of second gear as I only had time to go around the block. As I went around for the third time the bike died and I coasted home once there I managed to start the bike and it idled as it should. I should mention that prior to me buying the bike it has travelled about 12 miles in 6 years only seeming to go out for M.O.T but I have given it a mini service changing the oil filter and air filter. Checked the plugs they seem fairly new but cleaned them up. Any ideas anyone?
I should also say the engine had a major service including belts at 11470k it has done 12 k at present.
Once riding I was excellerating so revs were quite high until of course I came to the junction to turn back to home when I slowed down but began excellerating again once the junction was clear
Venners, when you had the snatching was that at low revs(<3000rpm), high revs (>7000 rpm), accelerating, slowing down or was it random? How long have you been driving Ducatis? Whereabouts are you in case someone on here could lend you some experienced ears for diagnosis?
I'm in Felixstowe this is my first ducati and I was excellerating quite hard when it started snatching
Fueling, maybe rust in bottom of tank? Is the petrol fresh? I'd be looking at new plugs and fuel filter if 6 years old. Maybe cleaning the clutch might help. And you should be thinking of new belts if 6 years old before reving to hard. Low mileage little used bikes are great but often need a good thorough refresh.
I've had the belts off they are in perfect condition although yes at 6 years old I plan to change them just in case. Fresh petrol was used but yes needs a new fuel filter.
Could be water in the fuel. Fuel floats on top of water, so fresh fuel on top of old fuel wouldn't help, the water would still be underneath. Is it a 2011 injected bike??
Yes, These carb bikes don't like temps less than 10 degrees or so. They did do kits for running oil to the float bowls but it was never a great solution.
