The 2nd series of Top Gear since the departure of Clarkson, May & Hammond starts tonight. Without the ginger one screaming at the top of his voice, things already look to be on the up. BBC Two - Top Gear, Trailer: Top Gear
Absolutely agree and looking forward to it! After watching about 5 of the Grand Tour I gave up on it.
My thoughts too... Grand Tour went off the rails, but hopeful Top Gear is on the up. Chris Harris was too much in the background last season, he's a proper car nut (and recent bike convert). Curious to see the chemistry...
Hope its a completely new show. Ginger twat's version with the same title sequence, same music, same format just different presenters trying to ape their predecessors was a disaster. It needs its own identity. Rehashing the Clarkson, May and Hammond era with different presenters was never going to work. If its a completely fresh start I'll watch it.
If the puerile "advertising" of the new programme by the BBC over the last month is anything to go by, I'll be doing something else. Andy
I watched them all and thought they were alright to be honest. Last series of Top Gear was ruined by Evans, but I still watched them all. I guess I'll just watch anything with nice cars. :confuse:
I thought that the last two seasons of the three amigo's were starting to run out of steam. Before then, Sunday used to be my do not miss it time but the last two seasons, not so much. I genuinely believe that it was like who wants to be a millioniare, it had run it's course and within another season or two it would have been ended. It's easy to blame the failure of top gear on evans because he is marmite but it misses the point, those three were top gear and top gear was those three. I had high hopes for the grand tour but they tried to turn a tv show into a movie and it failed. I enjoyed the first episode but that was more out of loyalty I think, I didn't bother watching the rest of them. The second attempt and top gear 2.0 honestly, I won't be watching it, It's a bit like finding out that cute girl you've had a crush on for years, used to be called Dennis.
I generally agree with you; the 1st of the Evan's Top Gear was awful, the 1st Grand Tour episode was excellent. But then it went downhill and the same old rehashed jokes just weren't funny and it was tiring to watch. But I disagree about you giving up on Top Gear, with Matt Le Blanc as the lead host, the last few episodes of the last series were really good and I think you should give it one last chance. It is sufficiently fresh and different now, to it's rather stale predecessor.
I enjoyed it, i like Matt Leblanc and the chemistry works. I like the fact that they didn't edit out the shunt he got from Chris Harris in his volvo, he didn't half look surprised! I hope it does well
I think last nights one was ok.....first my downside was, a little bit boring but not too bad. Stuff i liked.... Chris Harris: You can see he's a car nut off the bat and it reflects in his enthusiasm. I think if one of the other 3 left (Clarkson, hammond or may) he'd slot right in but he should stay where he is.... There wasnt too much hype....it didnt make any bold statements and it didnt mention the other 3. On the whole i thought it was good - look forward to the rest...
I agree that he is definitely a car nut but he tried too hard, was very scripted, and he was wooden IMO. He should get better as he becomes more comfortable in that environment.
I see the viewing figures are down to 2.8 million for the recent episode which is 2 million down on first Evans episode. Maybe the damage is already done or it will grow on people. The Grand Tour was still far more fun to watch albeit I don't really see it as a car show anymore but neither really is top Gear. It had a dip in the middle where the it got daft, like the military shoot up where they kept restarting but the last 2 or 3 were back on track.
Managed up until the star in the car or whatever it's called now, forwarded past that bit. Tried to watch the next bit which had a Volvo or something then switched off and deleted it. The guy with the Hoodie on at the beginning was just painful to watch, car nut aside I think he's better suited to driving than presenting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Very watchable and the race in the quarry seemed real rather than carefully choreographed (hence the fairly heavy crash!). Is it now just the team of 3 without Eddie and co? Probably for the best. Stars in the GT86 will be a lot hairier than the old cheap hatchbacks, good to get the Toyota support. Look forward to the next one.
I was a massive top gear fan and when the grand tour started I wasn't disappointed, but I wasn't fully blown away either. A few episodes in the middle of the season were a bit crap truth be told, but the last couple of episodes in the grand tour were brilliant and the magic started coming back. If you switched off after the first 2 or 3 then I get that, but I'd definitely recommend watching the last few of them as it's much more like good old top gear. As for the one last night I didn't even remember it was on, I'll watch it and give it a chance as it can't be any worse than with that ginger twat in it
