What n what number are they mate and il grab some tonight? The champions that I got won't tighten down for some reason, you reckon Halfords or tms will have the ngk's pal?
Number is NGK CR9EIX 3521. Got mine on the web but Halfrauds may have them. If you do get some, leave the gap alone, it's pre-set
Thanks mate I'm really hoping this is the issue, however there is no code on the dash so I'm guessing it's not anything serious. Will a normal spark plug socket do or will I need to buy a new one aswell?
You need a thin wall socket or machine a standard socket down. My Halfords didn't sell them. @nelly says to adjust to 0.9mm gap. I urged on caution and set to 0.8 and they are good. If it's only running on 1 cylinder I would swap the coils round and see if the other cylinder stops running. Coil ends (black rubber bit) can be pulled off for cleaning but a spring will fall out. CR
Anything other than a Champion plug will need a thin wall plug spanner. I filed my Ducati supplied one down but a better solution is to buy a proper one. Halfords do sell thin wall sockets but I don't know if they are thin enough.
Maybe, often not. Seen plenty of faults with dodgy coil and nobody mentioned a fault code. My warning light goes off about once a ride pulling away from stop. I ignore it now. In my limited experience I'd expect a dodgy coil. They are slightly notorious. You seem to be worrying. Breathe.
Standard plugs work fine. The big advantage of Iridium is that they are virtually fit and forget in that they last for tens of thousands of miles and require no attention They also have a theoretical advantage in tolerating bigger gaps, which gives a fatter spark. A fatter spark should give a more consistent idle and better pick up from low revs.
I sure am it's my first Ducati and I'm worrying about the costs of it needs to go to the garage, paying for that on top of the fact I turned up to the house with it without telling the mrs I was getting it won't go down to well, plus I'm sick of my mates telling me I should of stuck with jap bikes lol
If it's an early bike with original coils, swapping the more vulnerable front coil to the later type would be a worthwhile upgrade anyway.
Breathe. It will be ok. I very much doubt its serious. These bikes can take a little while to get just right. Stick with the forum. Listen to what you are told. I was just the same when I bought my 1st Ducati in November 2014. It's worth the ribbing when you park up and your mate's bikes are ignored and everyone swooning round yours. Relax. Ps, all makes of bikes go wrong. Fact.
I'm guessing I am diagnosing it right? Very little heat from front cylinder exhaust and misfiring and loss of power?? @Derek is along way from me unfortunately
So swap the coils and see if it changes to the vertical cylinder. If it does, it's the coil. If it doesn't, buy a thin wall socket and new spark plugs.
I'm here OK but I think you guys are doing pretty well on your own. Your advice about swapping the coils is good and is easy to try. Scotland is a pretty big place CR. I don't know where Scotty lives but Glasgow is about 2 hours from me, 3 hours to Inverness, only an hour to Aberdeen though
Any idea how much a coil is Derek? If not expensive and as it's such a likely culprit, I'd be inclined to swap the front coil for a new one as it's so much easier to get to than the one under the tank. I am a lazy bugger though...
