Yes, the original vee 4. Apparently one reason it never made production was that no tyre manufacturer could make a rear tyre which it didn't rip to pieces. Makes you wonder what could have been...........
front cylinders carbs had to have remote float chambers - i'm sure someone, somewhere has tried this on a 2 cylinder in a quest to run a truly short front inlet manifold.
Does it struggle with front end grip, an abundance of unnecessary yellow, and has it just got over a bout of excuses?
I think it was designed in the USA, by the importer/largest dealer at the time, was meant to be for Police/Forces bikes ???
I take it it didnt need a gearbox? Maybe a 2-speed - with reverse? Has anyone tried to pair up two Ducati L-twins? I've seen a few Kawa 2t V6's, and even a Z13 V-12?
The 1275cc Apollo V4 was designed in 1962 by Taglioni at the behest of their US distributors, the Berliner Corporation with the idea of producing a bike that they could sell to the US police departments. It produced 60 bhp with a pair of 24mm carbs or 100bhp with 4 carbs. The bike was launched in 1962 but with the technology of the time Pirelli were unable to produce 5.00 x 16 in tyres that would retain their tread. It was re-designed with less power for 1965 but was shortly scrapped as a failure. Later in 1976 Taglioni designed a 90 deg desmo V4 with water cooling and beltdrive to the single overhead camshaft. The company thought that the water cooling was too bulky and complex and it never made it into production
