Hi all, I just posted this on multistrada.net too. So here goes: Hi all, I have a 2010 S Touring on an 11 plate. I ride to work and back, park in the garage, activate the steering lock. Next day the bike is totally dead, not a flicker of anything anywhere. I just checked .. battery is showing 12.6V, all fuses are sound. I tried the 'starting without proximity key' thing and fell at the first hurdle - pressing the bottom button on the left bar for 2 secs or more does nothing so I can't get into the menu. And I get the battery replaced in the proximity key each year so the current one has only been in since August 2014. So I'm stuck with a dead bike that's got the steering locked! This may be a red herring, but on Saturday the bike had safety recall 925 done, though nothing actually needed doing. Any ideas, anyone?
Sounds like a duff battery to me, just because it's showing 12.6 v doesn't mean it has the capacity to fire all the electrics into life, I'd give the battery a good charge first then check to see if the battery is holding its charge and is still up to the job!
Well I take your point but it didn't fire ANY of the electrics into life! If the battery had a collapsed cell then I'd at least expect an idiot light or two to come on, a relay to rattle maybe but there was diddly squat. Tomorrow I'll try jump leads from my car (bike's in a lock-up 10 mins walk away) and we'll see what happens though I confess I'm not optimistic.
The button to start with pin code is under the black plastic cover at the front of the tank, nothing to do with the left hand switch
Good point. I stupidly followed the instructions in the user manual ) Embarassing though - I should have known that!
I'm guessing it's something simple like corrosion in the battery terminal connections ( give them a wiggle, a clean and some grease). Maybe a fuse needing a wiggle or replacement or a relay.
Hi- what was the cause of this because my 2013 has done exactly the same. Replaced the battery with a brand new fully charged from Ducati - no difference. Bike trapped in garage with steering lock on and dead.
There is a 30A fuse under cover of the starter solenoid through which all power to and from the battery goes. From there it splits to the regulator, the front and rear fuse boxes and the hands free unit. Check the 30A fuse. Check to see if there is power to the permanently live fuses in both fuse boxes. If there is, the problem is most likely with the hands free unit.
Thanks for your reply Derek. All fuses okay. Tried swapping the key battery but no change. Put old battery back in and voila. All working again except the override button. Booked into Ducati for investigation. Not going too far until sorted.
