Mivv owners, a technical question.

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Dawg, Dec 6, 2012.

  1. Chaps,

I have just had my new Mivv decat and Ghibli silencer delivered. I notice that on the decat, at the inlet end of each pipe there is a movable collar. They appear to have no other use than restricting the bore size slightly.
Is this a new thing or do they all have it?

Also before I attempt it, any tips on fitting or is it all straight forward.

    Cheers.

  2. Dawg not sure I get what you mean...I cant recall a moveable collar on mine.
    Can you post a picture?

PS Fitting was fairly easy, remove front manifold pipe (2xsize 10 spanner nuts, careful theyre copper and strip/round off easily), undo the springs on both horizontal and vertical exhausts and remove the end can. The Cat box should simply fall down. Fitting is pretty much the reversal.
Spray some wd40 into the joints to loosen it all up a bit the night before or during manipulation.
A few strategic taps with a mallet also helped.

There may even be photo instructions on here, MS or Andy's info website.

  3. This is the collar. Perhaps it's a new thing. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1354879501.793543.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk1354879523.494582.jpg

By the way, do you have to remove the centre stand to remove the original exhaust?

    Cheers.

  4. yes remove centrestand...and that collar must be a new design !

  5. Thanks,

Interesting, the only thing I can think is that they increase back pressure in the exhaust, I think that is supposed to be a good thing.......

  6. That is weird, I have never seen it before? I would imagine that it would decrease the noise level, but will probably decrease performance....perhaps they did that to protect the carbon silencer at the end of the can? I know they had some issues with the silencers being ripped apart by the high compression.

  7. Thanks Multi, thats a shame, the two things I want are noise and performance. I think I will ring BR Special Tuning and see if they know..
I suppose I could just leave them out? I have the Ghibli rather than the carbon silencer.

  8. I have the Ghibli too, and although its noisy I like it. I had the bike tuned by CJS and she runs like smooth as a babies bum :) Dont let BR talk you into their BR baffle. Chris from CJS says they lose you 10 BHP. He maintains back pressure is something for 2 strokes, but is a falicy with 4 strokes.

  9. Just phoned BR, it seems you are correct. This is a new addition in the last six months, he thinks that it is due to the damage caused to the carbon Suono silencers by the pulses from a large twin.
He said they have had no problems at all with the Ghibli and as there is no carbon it should be fine to leave them out. Result. :upyeah:

  10. Well, it's on. What a job, one belly pan fastener head sheared off, god knows what they are made of but they are certainly not strong... Took the baffle off (such that it is) and replaced the screws but then when I realised how loud it was I went to re fit it and one of those screws is now turning and I cant get the bastard thing out.

Still, It looks good, save a shit load of weight and does sound bloody good, buy that I mean bloody loud. All fitted fine and the center stand comes up much quieter than it did with the original..About two hours start to finish.

  12. That looks good my man! The fasteners are probably made of cheese like most these days! I had the Mivv Suono full Carbon on my Dorsoduro and they were a pig to fit and I vowed I would never by another Mivv product, would you recommend this set up then?

  13. Yes, in a word I would recommend it. I have fitted loads of aftermarket exhausts over the years, but never a full system like this.
The quality does seem pretty good except maybe for that baffle screw, but then again I am pretty ham fisted and have never used a torque wrench in my life.
Everything lined up ok and went together fine. It is bloody loud though. I have already apologised to my next door neighbor. Fortunately she is used to me and loud exhausts.

Also a huge price difference between these and your Termis and QD's.

  14. Dawg I bet you feel well satisfied :)
It looks good, goes well with the titanium colour of the bike :upyeah:

It is loud, but I found it to be less so than with the short stubby termi or the oem end can. Perhaps if you have a free afternoon you may want to put those ring collars back.
On the other hand if you have a nice neighbour then it should be no problem.

I took the rear baffle out and as a word of warning, before long the fibre glass material started coming out.

Have you ridden the bike yet? I bet you will find she goes like stink and much much smoother too.

Good luck, job well done, have fun stay safe!

  15. Thanks.

I have a mate who is an engineer so I'll take the silencer to him tomorrow, hopefully he will be able to fix the baffle screw.
And no, I haven't ridden it yet, most of the roads round here are still under varying depths of water.......
It does actually sound like a Duke now though which was the main aim. My wife thought the Diavel was too loud with the Remus I put on that........this is louder still. :upyeah:

  16. Same set up as mine, the quality seems pretty good on them, mine was on the bike when i got it.

i did post on another thread that they are MEGA loud.
