Hi, i wonder if anyone could help, i have an 04 999s that i havent run for nearly two years, i put in fresh fuel and a new Yuasa battery on it. All is fine apart from the front left hand indicator isnt working, i swapped both bulb and holder from the working right hand one, but nothing, checked connections and still nothing. The bike is running great as i left it for running 30-40 minutes. The thing is it was working before and the bike is due in for an mot this coming Friday! Any help would be gratefully recieved. Paul
Yes i have mate, they were fine, the bike only has 6000 miles on it and hasnt really seen wet weather. Cheers.
How about pulling the dash out(prize it upwards, 3 push in spigots). Disconect and reconnect multiplug.
That's what I'd suspect. Did you pull the connector apart and reconnect several times to clear any oxidation? When I bought my 999 the front brake light switch wasn't working and that was a lightly oxidised connector.
A big thank you to all the guys above on this post, success the bike now has four working indicators and is mot ready for this coming friday. One of the wires on the back of the bulb holder had come loose and with so little free wire to get my hands in, i hadnt pushed the wire all the way home when checking it, oh well live and learn. Once again thanks for your help chaps all the best.
Cheers mate, rode it yesterday for the first time in 2.5 years, felt great, just wandering what mods to do now that improve it a little bit more.
Best money I've spent was on a cable kit. The R1 throttle mod gives a small but worthwhile reduction in twist required to get full throttle. I love the quiet clutch mod but some people hate the idea of a quiet Ducati clutch. Dropping the gearing is good because few of us actually need to be able to achieve the theoretical top speed. I've put a bright white led in the parking light bulb holder to act as a running light. I also have an led board in the tail/brake light. I have a small Oberon Streetfighter bar end mirror on the right side to fill in the blind spot immediately behind. Progrip grips. Aftermarket levers to replace the horrid Brembo oem levers. Fit and forget Iridium plugs. Yuasa AGM battery to go with the cable kit. Afetrrmarket lids for the reservoirs. Night breaker headlamp bulbs. Open cover, dp pressure plate. Stainless Avanti springs, stainless bolts and anodised caps. Stainless or titanium bolts/nuts. Carbon fibre bits and pieces. Can't think what else.
Great thanks for that mate, i noticed after using my S1000rr, that has a heavy throttle but a lot less travel, i will do the R1 mod, is it just the tube you buy? I also like a bit of weight to my bars, i,m going to fit an adjustable damper, i fitted DucaBike bars, they are about 35-40mm higher love them. I,m on my way with Ti bolts i buy from Competition Fasteners in Goole, they are about a third the price of Pro-Bolt. I have odd ball ones made by a guy i know in Devon, he,s ace at it, all grade 5 Ti. I fancy the light upgrade too and the clutch mod, it is a bit noisy and you cant beat carbon, i cant believe how heavy the OE bodywork is. Have you done any engine mods?
Yes just the throttle tube. Look up R1 throttle mod to find out what part number. My motor has a pc3 and gives 130 rw bhp, which is enough for me. It was tweakedwhen the first owner had it. It also has a cored oem can. Where in Devon is your guy? I'm in Devon
I will thanks, i want to get it done, also doing the oberon bar end indicators with mirrors as well, its as much as you can use on the road isnt it 130, good fun, though i must admit i,m a bhp junkie. He,s called Ralph, he did some engine bolts for my S1000rr years back and i bought disc bolts from him also recently, really reasonable with his one off costs. Component Engineering - Machining, Pressing, Folding, Laser Cutting, Profiling, Stainless steel, Aluminium, Mild Steel, Titanium,
He's near Truro in Cornwall and his name is Hampshire. Racebolt make beautifully finished fasteners and are much cheaper than Probolt. I recommend their stainless Dzus type fasteners. The oem non Ohlins damper works perfectly for me. I found out how effective it is when I reconnected it with the sealing washer the wrong way round. The bars waggled all over the place.
Thats right, i will have a look at Racebolt, thanks, Pro-Bolt is expensive, though i just got the full rear linkage bolts for my bmw off them for £70, nearly a third cheaper than they were. Ha ha you cant beat a tank slapper to wake you up can you, i suppose could get it reworked, Kais is local enough to me. I might invest in a seat reshape with gell insert too, there is a company in Crewe that does it.
