Ok here goes, 1980 Darmah, new and fully charged battery, press starter, sounds as though starter is turning but not engaging. press starter again engages but quickly sounds like its disengaged. Sometimes a frightening clang from within. keep trying maybe 20 times, then the beast fires into life, allow engine to warm up. Turn engine off. Press starter, fires up straight away. only seems to happen when cold. Straight 40 oil, and the bikes been laid up for 3 years. I was told the sprag had been done, but I have no proof. Is this my welcome to Ducati ownership ?? Any help appreciated, I am right down in SW Somerset/Dorset/Devon border.
Do research using 'sprag'.....it's been plenty discussed. Also look on DuN, I've seen discussion there including oil type.
