Hey folks ok I am ordering a few bits and pieces over the next day or 2 ..... these include ..... Oberon clutch slave cyclinder & racing footpegs, evotech long levers and I want to upgrade my seat. I read good things about the superpole seat, except it raises the height a little? I cannot deal with that, i'm on my limit! Im only little! Ha! So does the dp neoprene seat lift the height or I like the look of the Sargent seat? I have done some 'searching' but cannot find any definitive answers! Help, please! Up next it going to get the suspension setup and also I read somewhere a remap to turn of the exhaust flappy thing and o2 sensors? Can someone enlighten me! Thank you! Adam.
You will need more than just a tune to eliminate the exhaust flap, I have an EE eliminator fitted to mine for that purpose. The ride height rod can be changed for an adjustable one for us with shorter legs, I have also done this.
I would recommend a Zero Gravity seat although it could be hard to find one these days. As for the clutch slave, I bought one and never fitted it because the clutch felt fine to me. After buying a secondhand Ohlins TTX rear shock Rich at Louigi Moto set my suspension for me but you'll probably need to get an adjustable ride height rod from a 1098/1198 to get it just right. CJS racing who are co located with Louigi Moto can re flash your ecu for you as well. Good luck with whatever you decide
Ok great chaps thanks, keep the info coming! I have found a zero gravity seat, I liked the look of it, I think I will purchase it after your recommendation. Yes I also saw the servo eliminators, so one of those and an ecu flash just to check everythings ok? Also an adjustable ride height link, of a 1098/1198, thenn get suspension setup? Correct? Lol.
I have just bought a Superpole seat and ridden about 20 miles with it. I am a short arse too and it deffo raises the height of the seat but not to an extent that makes it unmanageable. I have a DP Neoprene seat going spare if you are interested?
Personally I wouldn't bother with a used 1098 link. They really are shamefully p*ss poor quality and usually (IME) seized solid. The 848 non-adjustable dog bone link will put your ride height in the right ball park if you have stock gearing/chain and the chain adjusted proper. If you really, really want/need an adjustable link I'd look at either the SATO item (lots $$$) or the Chinese ones on ebay (little $$$).
To be fair the ride height is managable as it is now, I just wouldnt want it to go any higher. I have just pulled the plug on the zero gravity seat so hopefully that should be ok and not 'lift' me up anymore than the stock one. I will go get the suspension setup and go from there, it sure is a little 'hard' as it is!
Thanks for the offer, just pulled the plug and purchased a zero gravity seat I managed to find, I quite like the look of that one.
It's easy enough to back the pre-load off the back. that's a good place to start if it's not been touched since new.
I have no idea, I have only had it 3/4 weeks, only managed to get out a few times as yet, and a couple of those with the missus in tow, so I coukd really do with a few hours and a good blast to learn it a bit, although for sure seems like it could do with a 'tweak'
For me the essentials are the Oberon slave, the seat (I had a Ducati performance neoprene one and it was same height just super grippy) and suspension, the rear is pretty junk if u are reasonably light with very little to no static sag, JHS gave up with mine. Other massively rewarding mod is to go down 1 tooth on the front sprocket as it makes town and low speed work a lot easier! Tbh if I had mine again I would go down 1 on front and +1 back as it is really long geared. I had my bike remapped with a 848 cup map that Moto Rapido had, it definitely added some stomp which it didn't really need but smoothed out the power down low because it turned off o2 sensors and disabled the leaning off that the ecu does for emissions. I don't know why people get hung up on exhaust valves though, couldn't tell u if mine worked or not after the remap but didn't ever seize or play up on me. Finally I put some slightly less extreme tyres on mine, still Dunlop sportsmart 2 but they have a slightly flatter profile which just made the bike feel a bit more planted for my tastes Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
may i ask why so many seem to change the seats on these? im also little, boniest bum going, and find this seat completly acceptable, not as comfortable as an r1 i sat on, or a cruiser. but when moving my weights hardly even on the seat it feels like.
I am with you on this. I have the standard seat and it is absolutely fine. I have short legs so have an adjustable link on the rear, but I see no point in changing the seat.
and i adjusted my riding position so that i rode the bike better. ive never been happier with my purch.........[emoji106]
I swapped the original for a DP neoprene seat as I spent a lot of time sliding back and forth on the original vinyl one! Looks nicer too i'f i'm being picky!
partly why i asked was: at the start of my ownership of my 848, i also found the seat to be slidey, bit shit tbh. but then i adjusted my riding, sitting at the back of the seat when needed, and clutching the tank with my legs when needed to not move. turns out, once i did that i became more comfortable, bike felt EVEN more stable, it improved cornering stability for me and gave me a little extra confidence. i now don't wish to change the seat, the only issue remaining is the heat build up from the exhausts, man they're hot sometimes
I found exactly the same thing helped me, i sit further back now and i've got grip pads on the tank to keep me stuck where i perch. The exhaust heat is a bit much in summer but very welcome on a cooler day when you stop and it warms you from the backside upwards! I'm now changing my cans over to the carbon Termi's so maybe they won't be quite so toasty?!
aftermarket end cans dont really get hot. its the pipe itself that does, i might eventually wrap the pipe in heat wrap. but funny how correct positioning on a super-bike helps the stock ergonomics work [emoji23][emoji12]
