Hi all, I got caught speeding by an unmarked police car today & got issued with a ticket & 3 points. My first ever speeding ticket in 8 yrs of riding. Now talking to the folks at work nobody regognises the BG02 offence code on the ticket. I've looked it up & can't find it anywhere. Anybody heard of it? Never had a ticket before so don't know what to do about contesting it if it's not the correct code (even though I was speeding).
Hi, Wilftop -sorry to hear that and you're right, it seems to be a strange code. Maybe try searching / posting on Pepipoo?
Howdo, just googled BG 02 and all I can find is this: Licence Endorsement Codes - Car Insurance Online Nothing there !!! A quick telephone call to Motorcycle Accident Claims, Motorbike Personal Injury Solicitors might well be in order. Hope it goes well, good luck.
That will be a local fixed penalty code and nothing to do with the endorsement code which will wend it's way onto your licence I'm sorry to say.
What did the officer say at the scene? Seems odd the code, because all speeding endorsements start with SP so that as the others have said is unrecognised...........you sure it wasnt someone with pretend flashing blue lights trying to make a quick buck!! Did you pay the fine at the scene?
Not heard of that one before... In 32 years of riding I've been caught three times : once by a hand-held camera, once by a fixed camera and once by an unmarked car - all three times the offence code started "SP". Just as an aside - did you make a note of the make, model and reg number of the unmarked car ? I always do with any I spot, just so I can pass the info on to other people - "forewarned is forearmed"
Right to make it simple. A fixed penalty code is a code that the officer writes on said fixed penalty when issuing it - this is effectively a bit of internal admin for stats generation as well as identifying particular offences YMMV depending on where you get nailed. This has nothing to do with the endorsement code ( e.g. SP for speed offences ) which the Court endorses your licence with when you agree to accept the fixed penalty or are found guilty by Court - they will be the same throughout the UK. That bit of info is brought to you after 27 odd years of issuing said fixed penalties ( but not any more.....;-) ) IIRC they were £12 non endorsable and £24 plus points for the nasties when I started, at least the points didn't go up with inflation!
Thanks for all the responses guys, speaking to a mate in the met it will be a sp code when endorsed, didn't pay anything at the scene & the officer wasn't an arse at all. That'll teach me to be nearly 20 miles over the speed limit. For anyone who uses the A27 Brighton - Chichester it's a black BMW 1 series gy59.
I guess there are many members that are police or ex police, and its always really helpful having having forum members that are in the know and willing to give advice. Thanks Rushjob.
Wilf you should have killed the throbber and thrown his corpse off Beachy Head!...oh hang on no thats illegal isnt it!
BMW 1 series? I know the police have to manage some serious cut backs but leasing their cars off of mobile hairdressers is a bit much surely?
