DId the Xmas shopping today, which was pretty painless (except for the wallet). Xmas shopping is only good when you know what you want and you find it immediately. On the other hand, Xmas cards in this land are just a bad joke. There is nothing you want to buy; they are all hideous and unamusing and they cost a fortune. No wonder they are dying out. CHF 5 (that's about £3 or more) for a card? God knows I chuck away kilos of advertising every day, but if you print "Happy Christmas" on a piece of card suddenly it's worth about the price of a pint. Pity. I feel all virtuous when I send off a heap of cards. I'm beginning to think I may make my own. Some card, a computer and a colour laser printer - how hard can it be?
Our tree isn't up yet...mainly because the bah humbug hasn't got it out of the loft! I believe Christmas is too commercialised these days and the reason why we celebrate in the first place is either forgotten or unknown by most. It is unnecessary for people to get themselves into debt for buying gifts that are unwanted or not needed. Christmas should be for spending time with family and friends, there is no need to buy expensive presents? We have bought for the nipper and the nieces and nephew - that's it. I look forward to seeing my boys face on Christmas day when he thinks Santa really has been - he's 9 and I still make him believe we do the Brandy, Mince Pie and carrot thing too!! I remember when we were kids, every year on the open fireplace where a pair of sooty boot print marks a half eaten carrot, mince pie and an empty glass of milk......it was amazing me and my brother and sister believed for years until one year the boot print weren't there, the glass was by the kitchen sink and the mince pie hadn't been touched but there were lots of presents under the tree and our stockings were full we all looked mortified and mum and dad made some story up that he must have come in the back door and probably had a full belly.....Santa never came in the back door.....the following year I didn't believe :-( When I was in my late teens I found my Dads army boots in the garage.....yep they were the exact same size as Santas feet!!!! Gutted!!!!
I'd be a bit worried about someone coming in my backdoor ,then robbing my aldi mince pies , then hitting my fridge for carrots and milk .........I call that breaking and entering !!!!! Now talking of which , emm bedtime !!!!!!! And bring milk and carrots xx
Yup, like the adverts say, "a dog isn't just for Christmas, if you freeze it, you can get stews, curries and pies for weeks after"
Christmas means having to have 3 days off in bad weather - How much worse can it get? I would always prefer to work and have 3 days off in summer. Double grumpy this year as I can't have my usual 3 hour escape from the crap TV and sister's visiting tribe by getting out on the mountain bike, as my arm is in a sling from shoulder surgery. Works do? Pleased they don't have one any more due to the economic downturn, but even when it was expected, I never went to one. Decorations - up on the 23rd, down on the 27th when I was a kid, plenty long enough. Spending some time with people you want to be with is the only good bit.
Looks like I've got to work only one day over christmas, which pleases me. Means I can catch up with all the jobs at home, including fettling the fuglystrada.
finish on the 21st and go back on the 2nd, i wont be bored time for family, friends and loved ones probably just the family though
How about a Two-Pet Roast? I'm sure a medium sized cat would fit into a large-ish dog. Then eight people get a drumstick.
I will be working all the way to boxing day. Volunteered for Christmas day so I didn't have to work any of the other Bank Holidays. No decorations. It always takes a lot longer to take them down than it does to put them up. At least on Christmas day the days are getting longer and SUMMERS COMING!!!!
