Having just been playing with mine, I can confirm the more packing you can get in, the louder the zorsts are.....and changing from ally cans to carbon fibre makes the zorst note deeper.....

  3. 748 will have 45mm exhaust system, you can get 50mm or bigger, either full system or one that has a 45-50mm increase in the mid-section but it will give no performance benefit and may even make less power.

For more noise and a little more go the best option is a pair of 45mm cans to fit straight onto the existing mid-section, ideally you should then at least replace the 'chip' in the ECU and get it setup properly or better still a custom remap.

  4. Mostly peps upgrade to the 45mm cans. Termi or similar.
    Like these;
Ducati 996 / 748 / 916 Termignoni carbon oval exhausts (Only for race use) | eBay

They slip on to the existing 45mm link pipe.

If you want the larger end cans (50mm) you will need a 45-50mm link pipe to accommodate them.

You'll need to fit a new chip into the ecu, which basically adds a bit more fuel. Some may argue that the chip isn't required.... That's a whole new tale...

    Good luck...:upyeah:

  5. D'ho... DD just pipped me....

  6. The exhaust system on the 916 line is made up of three sections: headers (from cylinder heads to the rear of the engine), the mid-section (short vertical section of two pipes which link the headers to the end cans, behind your right leg) and the end cans themselves.

My 2000 748S had 50mm headers with a 50-45mm mid section and then 45mm cans as standard.

It then had the 50-50mm (straight-through) mid-section fitted along with the 50mm carbon Termi cans, and the correct DP fuel chip dropped in.

Check what you have first as you may only need the cans and mid section to get the full drain-pipe effect. You can easily measure the diameter of the headers to see what size you have. IIRC, they use a 1mm steel tube so if you measure 52mm diameter on the external it's obviously a 50mm section header.

  7. thanks mate, ace link, they may get a phonecall!! got a standard set of cans to core, but im well up for makin me own!! cheers, martyn

  8. thanks, have found some chips on ebay, from slovakia?? you heard anything about these? reliable/accurate?
can the factory ecu be reprogrammed?
    thanks, martyn

  9. thanks, got my eye on them and a set of stainless ones for £100 with link pipe, tempting cos doin black frame and wheels, the shiny stainles mite be a good contrast?
hopin i wont need chip lol

  10. thanks mate, will have to get me verniers out if i can find them! martyn

  11. I have just done that........be warned, the PJ ENG carbon tubes have a seam (slightly sharp) along them which you obviously will need to turn so they can't be seen..........they don't rub down theirs and lacquer them like some manufacturers do.....apparently it can weaken the tube along the rubbed down seam.

Mine were a bit of a b*****d to do, because of my set-up.......I needed to have fixing holes in mine to fit my hanger brackets, so getting them right was one thing, but then I found my cans had been turned previously so there were additional holes in the inlet and outlet caps........getting them to line up with the holes in the stainless end straps was impossible, so I needed new holes........carbon fibre blunts drills quickly as does some higher quality stainless steel.......

    But they look OK.......

  12. I have a 45/50 setup but the stated measurement is the outside diameter i.e. headers (original Ducati) measure 45mm OD and cans/mid-section (Termignoni) measure 50mm OD.

  13. thanks, just measured and its 45 headers, mid-section expands to 50 then goes back to 45 to cans

  14. sounds fun, if a little frustrating lol im happy doin that tho, i have aold set of carbon oval arrow cans off my S4 i could butcher as well, teaming with ideas now :)

  15. Forget the chips, a waste of time.

Use the chip you have and either have the ECU regprogemmed by Chris at CJS or a PCIII and individual remap for each cyclinder at a reputalbe dyno place. Both cost about the sdame , but you will have to pay CJS the same again if you do any other mods and want it setting up again. With the PCIII, you only pay for the remap second time around, so a good deal less than a CJS remap.

  16. I've got a pair of Termignoni 45mm open carbon pipes that I've been meaning to put on ebay but can't be bothered. Going rate is about £250 but I'll be happy with £200. I'm in Newark.

  17. gutted, just bought some stainless ones off eb$y else id have had them!!!
thanks tho mate, dont suppose you got any front forks or front cylinder exhaust valve cover???
    thanks, martyn

  18. I have forks :)

  19. cool, are they the later ones, 63mm caliper mounts?
mine only need legs reanodising but id rather just buy another set than mess about,
how much you after and can you post?
    cheers, martyn

  20. I have a set of showa front forks with maxton re-valve. They are 40mm caliper bottoms. In decent condition.
