1992 - Black Engine Paint - Satin Or Gloss?

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by DucatiChappie, Jul 11, 2017.

  1. Hi Guys and Girls

Quick question: I'm about to repaint the alternator cover and clutch housing on my 1992 engine prior to reassembly. Can't decide whether to go with a satin or a gloss finish. The original looks somewehere in between! I have some high temp satin engine paint already (bought for a Yamaha project, but not used). Interested to hear what others have used. Ideally I'm looking for something as close to original as possible. I will be lacquering over as well.

I noticed that Wolfram (on his brilliant thread) used a Halford gloss black. Opinions and experiences please?

    Thanks

    James

  2. I used gloss. VHT or any similar engine enamel.

Don't have pics to hand unfortunately.

  3. Thanks Desmoquattro. Did you find it came out similar to the original?

  4. The original was too tatty to tell, dunno if you can make it out from the attached. Best pic I have to hand.

  6. Thank you. I have etch primer to hand. It's all in the prep!
    Cheers

  7. Personally, I would go satin for the cylinder heads, and gloss for crank cases etc

  8. Thanks Wayne. Cylinder heads are OK at the moment with just some minor chips so I'm going to just clean and touch up. Casings are another story...

  9. Well, gloss then......job jobbed. Get painting !!
