1200 DVT Learning The Bike 300 Miles In

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Cliffords, Jul 27, 2017.

  1. Absolutely loving it and stretched to 5500 revs now cant wait till I can go further , now have two questions.

What should my tick over be I think its at about 1400 rpm does this seem high ?

I have found a few false neutrals one above 2 and one above 4 , I have big feet but the gearbox is very very smooth. That said false neutrals cant be good or is this common as I learn the gearbox?

    thanks

    David

  2. I can't say for the multi specifically but most bikes will tick over high for a little while and then go down to around 800rpm once a little bit warmed up.

Hitting a false neutral happens once in a while, nothing to worry about.

  3. Mine had false neutrals when newer and i adjusted gear lever and was better but not gone. 15000 miles and I hardly ever get the false neutrals. Mines idles @1100 or 1200 rpm. If you have bike in gear rolling to stop it idles high. When you come to a complete stop it drops some. My bike doesn't come to idle speed unless it's at 0 mph.

  4. Be more agressive with changing gears. Man up & be more pro-active' low speed low gears et cetra. Once you have done the 624miles run in you have a secondary run in period also!

  5. False neutrals are quite common on a new Ducati - should go away as it runs in.

  6. My 2017 Multistrada on initial start it revs to approx 2000 after 20 secs or so it drops to 1100 - 1200 checked with Ducati Stoke apparently this is normal only happens when been standing overnight or all day
Gearbox improves after 1st service and gets better as the mileage increases and you get used to me gearbox
You need to be firm when changing gear
It's a cracking bike you will love it ENJOY

  7. Despite pontificating on here a few weeks back, about keeping my 10S until it expires, I am picking up an Enduro this morning (I don't know what happened?). Although I've ridden a 15 DVT and a GSA LC, I didn't actually try the Enduro, so hopefully my 'learning a new bike' won't involve me under-steering off into a hedge?

  8. Think you'll be safe. Under steering is not something that's easy to do on a multi of any kind :upyeah:

  9. Just over 1 thousand miles on 2017 dvt 1200s and loving it, she idles around the 1100 mark.
One thing I am struggling with though is town riding as the throttle seems to be very sensitive, I have tried different modes to no avail. Not a noob at riding just with this bike and it does concern me, anyone else have this issue?

  10. Surprised at that. Mine on urban (low) and touring (medium) is quite laggy. In fact on urban it's like riding a scooter, you need a big fistful

  11. Also surprised at that, keep mine in max for all modes as I find the others a bit vague. The sport or high engine choice is the only one that feels like its directly connected, more like a cable than the others.

  12. Gearbox gets better with miles, and your idle does seem a tad high, if indeed that is the figure once the bike is warm ?

  13. Will need to double check idle, was planning to get her out today however rain stops play.
I have sport mode on most of the time, only dropping to touring on motorway or towns. Maybe it's just me going from standard 4 cylinders to the twin, time will tell.

  14. When you come to fill it up, do it on the center-stand for max (33litres) of fuel. Then carefully rock it off holding hand-grip & pillon grip. Two people I've met have had then fall away from them on the fore-court. I also watch my side-stand been deployed everytime I get off as the enduro is heavy if it goes wrong.

  15. You know you can select throttle response in touring mode too right ? Its all fully changeable in each mode. :)

  16. Yup
I have the sport in high and the touring on medium which I believe is the default setting, doesn't seem to make much of a difference, slow driving is a pain as even when holding throttle perfectly still ( or so I think) the bike wants to surge or die. I have to use clutch a lot to stop this happening.

    Ps sorry to hijack thread..oops

  17. You are describing something entirely alien to my DVT. It's smooth at any revs, change from med to high is very noticeable, have noticed since the map update it surges a little but that's at about 4K revs with steady throttle on high.

  18. Very strange indeed, tbh this is the first time I have had this with any bike.
Might need a trip to dealer, when it was in for 1st service he did mention that the throttle wasn't returning as it should therefore lubricated, maybe something to do with that.

  19. My DVT is also smooth - so suggests something is amiss with yours..

It does not like going 2 mile an hour - but above about 10 miles an hour real smooth.
