I have RAC cover via my Barcalys Bank account. It is personal cover, so any vehicle I drive. After exhaustive 'phone calls it was confirmed that my Duke would be covered. I have used it in anger and the recovery was indeed contracted out, as has been mentioned in the thread. I needed it as clutch slave failed. The RAC did show up though and the tow contractor knew what he was doing. He was an old school guy and very methodical. I think all the major rescue organisations contract out to some degree. I have been recovered in a former life in a Triumph Dolomite by the AA and they contracted out too. Just check any policies you have, house car etc. and your bank before paying for anything else.
You have to read the small print with a lot of the policies that come with bank accounts. A lot will not cover vehicles over 10 years old. We have excellent cover with a policy through a group insurances at work but it is limited to 10 year old vehicles. For me that's bad. It rules out the 916, MV and My cars except for the one I use for work.
just used green flag and must admit was excellent sos motorcycles quoted an hour where with me in 20 mins I have car and bike with them
keep the tips coming... i need to check to see whether auto aid includes bikes.. if so then happy days
ok, so the aa cover I have on my van that also covers me on my bikes doesn't have European cover (I swear when I paid £125 they said it did.. anyhu...) so what European cover? just spoke to the aa and the want £161 for a 2 week 1 off trip to Italy ... which basically (after half hr of my life wasted) will get me towed to a garage, bike brought back to uk if the rapair is quoted at more than £500 or cannot be done before the end of my trip and a hire car for the duration of my trip... it the worst happens its probably not a bad price but given my membership in the uk is £125 for my van and any vehicle im in, for 12 months it seems a lot... any advice?
Take the cover and if you don't use you should be able to cancel within two weeks of start if not activated and get all your cash back I did this after a insurance mix up when abroad on my bike on the advice of the costumer service guy with my bike insurance didn't need the breakdown in the end so when I returned cancelled it for a full refund
that sounds like a cunning plan ! only prob is my trip is 15 days long.. and id like to get cover in place in advance so the cooling off period will have lapsed before I return
I'm with RAC. Joined the expensive way - while broken down in a layby at 7am one pissing wet January morning about 10 years ago. I've used them for punctures on my bikes mostly but once when I filled my new deisel car with petrol. Doh!
My personal experience is that "good and cheap" are not too words that go together Buy cheap in the hope you will never need them Buy good and rest in the knowledge they will be quick and efficient
A couple of years ago my rectifier went on the 1098. I was in Belgium at the time. I got it to Zeebrugge and pushed it onto the boat and off the other side. I used the Carol Nash recovery. Rang at 830 arrived at 1 o'clock Last year coming home from work got a puncture. I was 25 miles from home so rang the wife to come and bring some foam. When I put it in it was snowstorm the tyre was slashed. 17:25 I rang Carol Nash. Had a couple of arguments with them one being why wasn't I carrying a spare! They rang back to say 90 mins. I settled down to wait. Just before 7 they rang to say traffic bad add 45 mins 7:45 I rang to ask how long they said another 30 mins. 8:30pm I was getting pissed off. 8:45 an AA man stopped. Said he had seen me earlier asked if I wanted help. I joined the AA for £70 and loaded the bike up. I rang the Carol Nash lot and told them not to bother. They claimed he was only 10 mins away Carol Nash won't let you knock the recovery off
As most responses have outlined here in reply, you can only accurately describe how good the B/D service was or has been, after you've had to use it. Having looked at the various replies, like one other responder here, I went for Start-Rescue, which was for UK & European cover from home, with just about every possible option covered and my quote was for £58.00. I was also able to add my Aprilia in the UK for an additional £28.00, which to me, based on the range and scale of cover provided, appears to be really good value......potentially!
Just joined AutoAid cars and bike me and the Mrs for £43.31. Lets hope there Ok when anyone of us needs it
