1200 Sat Nav Connection

  1. Hi guys.I have a 2013 1200s with a sat nav fitted and wired in to the proper connector.I want to fit a usb charging point on the handlebars.Would I be better to run the usb direct from the battery or could I splice it in to the sat nav connection?I don't want the battery to drain when the bike is parked up.Thanks in advance.

p.s. the usb is to charge intercom/phone on the move.

  2. The best practice will always be the ignition live line, but if nothing is connected to the USB when you walk away, then it cant drain anything, although you must appreciate, there will always be a live line there. If it were me, I'd tap in to an ignition live line such as the one you mention.

PS, I think there is another ignition live there somewhere, a spare line but I maybe wrong ??

  3. Thanks Wayne.Thats what I was hoping to do but dont know much about power supply so wasnt sure if I could run both off the 1 connection.

  4. You can use one of the two power sockets which are ignition switched. Either use a mini connector (that's what powers my riding lights) or tap into the power wire upstream of the connector.

  6. I don't see why not mate, it will supply 12V to 2 items, and the current draw from each is whats important, but its not like you're going to be pulling large amperage from a sat nav and a USB eh. I was sure there was another 12V ignition live line up front somewhere but I may be wrong, and maybe someone else can help out witht that bit, but if not, two low amp items from one line will be fine.

  7. Good luck, and lets us know how you get on. :upyeah:

  8. Everything working as it should. Thanks for the advice guys!
