  5. No. It's not there to protect the lever from damage, it's there to prevent it inadvertently being depressed if you bump another rider. So you'd not be fussed about the clutch lever being depressed as much as you would the brake lever.

  7. If you only get the brake lever the bike will tend to steer right. This can be overcome by wearing a heavy watch on the left wrist.
