1198s Full Termi System

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Cupid Stunt, Sep 21, 2017.

  1. I have just fitted a Termi full system to my 1198s, I am getting slight leakage from the joint where the front cylinder down pipe meets the long pipe that goes all the way under the bike.
I am thinking of fitting shorter springs to hopefully pull it all a bit tighter, failing that I will probably use a high temperature silicone, if I have to go down the latter route are there any recommendations ?

  2. Use exhaust joining paste, will seal a treat then.

  3. I heard that joint paste was no good as it dries hard and then will crack and fall out.
    I may be wrong though.

  4. When you was a boy maybe ? I found some that is claimed to be flexible and ideal for use with exhausts :)

  5. Some of the joins on some Duc's have a gasket type thing. May be worry checking a parts list.

  6. Thanks, but its a termi full system, it all slips together.

  7. Sure. My 999 system slips together but there are round gasket type things that sit on the end of the pipes you slip up the bigger pipes. There not gaskets but I don't know their proper name.

  8. O ring seals ?
I have had 4 full systems and I have not seen a gasket in sight on any of them apart from the headers where they join the cylinder heads.

Well I have used an exhaust paste on them tonight will leave it 24hrs to let it all settle in then fire it up tomorrow evening if all ok fairings go back on ready for a ride Saturday :)

  9. Interested to know what you ended up using @Cupid Stunt as I intend using a little bit of something similar on Mrs M's monster after removing the exhaust system this winter...

Was looking at possibly using Loctite 5920. Anyone had any experience with this?

  10. Just to show I'm not mad, part #35 and #36, although doesn't look like they use them up front.

  11. Mine blew a tad on front when cold on my 1198 on 1st fitting, but it did dissipate once it had got hot. It never bothered me as I figured this must be normal. When I took it off to sell the bike, it was tight as fuck.
