Matt Or Gloss Carbon?

  1. Never heard of that. Something for the data bank for the future

  2. Got a Matt clutch cover on my 996 and it looks a bit more original and less aftermarket bling than a gloss finish would IMO.

  3. Matt!
The only two gloss carbon bits ive ever bought turned yellow after 12 months! (R&G in case anyone's wondering)

  4. I like satin.

  5. Gloss for me. I am not a lover of the matt finish as on complex parts, such as the electronic holders, it looks too raw and unfinished in my humble opinion. Gloss also brings out the detail in the weave and adds depth to the surface as opposed to a dull flat appearance. Each to their own though.

  6. I can't see the point in carbon parts when the weight loss on most parts could be achieved by either a poo or just laying off the greggs for a few weeks and the only pounds you will lose will be those from your bank.

On that basis I suspect for most road bikes, exposed carbon is more of a "look at me and my bike" type of thing and so with that in mind, gloss carbon every time.

  7. I quite like this. I just had some carbon bits relacquered and since it all DP and MS Production stuff the gloss highlights the pinholes. Does the Matt finish disguise the imperfections?

  8. I'm intrigued in this as my latest acquisition has quite a lot of Matt finished carbon bits and pieces on it...

Maybe our resident guru @rob lewis can give some insight and thoughts on this?

  9. For me, it isn't a straight forward preference for either gloss or matt finished carbon products... Different bikes suit different finishes in my eyes.

For instance, I think the 1098/1198's suit gloss finished carbon bits very well and look odd with matt carbon bits on them... Where as the Panigales suit matt additions very nicely, the Pani's don't look odd with gloss carbon bits to me though... I just think matt suits them better...

At the end of the day though, if we were all the same we would live in a boring old world and so long as you are happy with it... Who cares what anyone else thinks ;)

  10. Any ' decent ' Ceramic coating will add a degree of scratch resistance to whatever its applied on...BUT it will not eliminate stone chip damage.....Best have a film applied like Xpel self healing PPF....this will create a barrier against stone chip damage....its amazing stuff as you can heat the film up if you have any damage to it and it repairs itself...UNIQUE Stuff!

  11. Always personal preference but which ever way people go I think the theme should stay consistent.

I'm personally not a fan when gloss is mixed with Matt on the same bike. It sends my OCD in to overdrive.

  12. I just used a random clear matt that I picked up at an autojumble. Each item was sanded back to 800 grit, then 4 coats of clear.
Agree not to everyones taste but I like the contrast to the gloss paintwork.
