Hi all - One month in and still loving the Hyper "Thang" after a history of sports and supersports. Have noticed a few things that are not ideal that seem to be mostly common complaints. Mirrors...yep...make it too wide and last about 1 ride before going out of adjustment which seem impossible to re-adjust without dismounting...can be dangerous in traffic as the tendency for me is to give up and rely on more "life savers" and one day something may be missed...Looks like new mirrors on standard stalks seem to be on the cards. Indicator switch is a real pain...r/h direction is worse. Push with a gloved thumb and the top and it's "Is it on or still off???" This isn't helped by the slight delay of LED indicators..."It MAY be on...hang on...no it's still off!!!" Add to this that you have to look down a several times taking your eyes off the road and mirrors means more than your fair share of "heart-stoppers" with some aggressive **** whooshing up behind you. Pushing the switch at it's base seems better with a 75% chance of it actually turning the buggers on! From what I can see the switch "bends" slightly at the top and so does not engage...I need to replace or renew this before I get a nasty rear-end or the blind pensioner coming towards me does not understand what my intentions are and rides right over me! Engine seems to "hunt" slightly at idle??? Low speed is not that smooth with it either bogging in 2nd or revving too much in 1st....I had a 999 and a Sport Classic 1000 with the DS engine before this and never had this low speed problem...Change my technique? Get used to it? swap sprockets?? Really be interested in your experiences in the above - especially the indicator switch problm. Thanks!
Mirrors: Subjective....i like the stock foldy mirrors - its what makes the hyper, the hyper....mirrors on stalks....awful...totally ruins the look of the bike...but that's me...if you put a gun to my head and told me i had to change them id go for bar end mirrors of some sort. As one of the lads said on here "removing the mirrors from the hyper is like taking pigs ears of and putting on elephants ears and then wondering why it doesnt look like a pig anymore!" Indicator switch problem...never had that, never noticed it, never had an issue - its a button, that works. You can see when the indicators on the front are going no matter what as when theyre flashing you can see them inside the handguard though a small slit on each side flashing... Engine hunting: Whats your current engine setup?, has it been on the dyno?, is the exhaust stock?.
I hated the stock mirrors on my 796 and the handguards for that matter too flimsy, so I ditched them got some plain hand guards, and didn't bother with mirrors. Makes for better filtering when in London traffic. Don't get your indicator problem, you can see if they are on or off by the dash. What comfy said
Thanks all, agree about the look of the mirrors. I'm slowly getting used to them. Indicators - very strange i've never had this with any other Ducati... I think the problem is that they do not "locate" into the on position without stabbing at them a few times.I can see them through the fairing but, unlike any other indicator switch, they rarely turn on at the first go - I've ordered a new switch to hopefully cure this. Tune up is a good idea...she's totally stock so no worries of an ECU mismatch etc. Let's see how she goes!
