1098 Belt Tension - Gates Carbon Drive App Problems?

  1. Hi guys, i'm having a bit of trouble with the Gates app on on my iPhone 8 plus, the app loads up and works fine with the built in mic but if I plug in an external mic for a better gauge of frequency (using a Rode VideoMic Go) the app just shuts down. Has anybody had this issue when using an external mic, what mic are people using? any advice welcome.

  3. I use Carbon Drive on a Huawei Android phone. With an external mic of unknown make it works just fine.

  5. I just presumed the better the mic the more accurate the reading.

  6. Nah. An external mic is easier to get in close to belt but as long as the phone can pick up the sound the accuracy doesn't change. Remember you'll have to use your phone facing away from you with the mic next to the belt, so the screen will appear upside down.

  8. The only way I get reasonably consistent readings (when using the gates app on my iPhone) is not to use an external mike.
