Hi everyone, As you can see I am very new to the forum and I'm trying to buy my first Ducati. I'm in discussion with a seller who says he has a 1098s but there seems to be some doubt as to whether it is an S or not. I have the VIN, which is ZDMH701AA7B012322, is there any way to be sure this is an S from the VIN? Thanks for any help that you can give me. Bob.
There are some remarkably knowledgeable folk on here who may well be able to tell from the VIN. However, Ducati HQ will certainly be able to and there's a good chance your enquiry will be dealt with by an Italian lady who is reputed to be absolutely charming.
Hi Nelson, is this any use? Unfortunately, there are no markings on the forks that I can see and the seller hasn't come back to advise whether the forks and rear suspension are Ohlins or not. Any help would be great. Thanks, Bob.
Agree with cookster, I believe the "s" versions also had a carbon front mudguard, although you cant quite see the colour of the front forks the caliper bracket etc is black as per showa and not silver (Ali) as per Ohlins
Yep that's a base model mate, no forged wheels either. I'm sure it will be great to ride but the S is worth holding out for if u can get one. All I would say though is better a really clean standard model than a tatty S model if that makes sense? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks to everyone for your kind help. I was definately in doubt but the seller (in France) insisted the registration document said the bike is an S. I'll go back to him and burst his bubble, though I bet it doesn't stop him trying to sell it as an S if it is on the French registration document. Cheers, Bob.

Hi Cookster, Thanks but I am looking for something older. I was looking for a 996s but these seem to be priced beyond my budget, so when the 1098 came up it looked a good deal but not if isn't an S. Cheers, Bob.
