1098 Number Plate Bracket Fitting

  1. Has any one, any pics of the rear end of their 848/1098/1198. I need to fit a r&g tail tidy to my bike, but as it was being converted to a track bike before I purchased it, it had no fittings etc.. I have no idea what's missing on the underside & above.. If I had an idea then I could either purchase from my local dealer or if I was lucky enough.. Someone on here may have what I'm after.

All the R&G fitting instructions say us that use the original fixtures.. (Which as per my playing I don't have :(

  2. I'll be honest... I cant be arsed to go out & unlock fort knox that is my bike shed... But the standard issue unit is two bolts into the exhaust hanger.. as in two bolts directly under & in the middle of that plate... if you have exhausts on the bike then you have that plate...... on a side note, do you not have indicators at the mo then?

  3. Im running an R&G tailtidy on my bike, if you still need them, i'll get some pics over to you this afternoon..unless somebody beats me to it :)

The other option is to get hold of a parts diagram, this will show the bits your missing

  4. Thanks @mattmccabebrown that would be very handy. Will dig out a parts book also to see what's required. Be good to see real life pics also to complement the black & white images from the parts diagram.

    :)

  5. The holes for the bolts are up under the exhausts get a torch and shine it up just in front of the end cans you should see 2 bolt holes in a plate that goes under the seat unit. If you imagine removing the seat unit, there is an under tray on the bike left that fixes to the rear subframe. The mounting plate is on that.

I made a Heath Robinson bracket up out of two pieces of exhaust strapping that just bolt into those holes without removing the holes.

If you have nothing there at the moment what are you doing for indicators, rear and brake light and number plate light ? I use an all in one tail light but my home made number plate bracket doesn't have a light for the no. plate so need to upgrade at some point.

If you've got the R&G tail tidy you should just be missing the 2 bolts. Well and maybe all the wiring !

  6. Is it an MOT requirement to have the plate illuminated?... Swear I read somewhere recently it wasn't?.. Anyway, if you need a plate light FM i have a spare led one that came with my tail tidy.. very discreet & two wires / two screw fitment... PM me if you want it bud

  7. Always used to be that 50cc mopeds did not require a light on the plate but anything over 50cc did for some reason

  8. Hi,
It has no bracket at all just two holes.. So Will I have to make something up If i'v got the power, a pic of what you done @Fastmonkey would be very helpful. I think my tail tidy comes with a number plate light already..

  9. Thanks for the offer Hutch, bike doesn't need an MOT at the mo so not too worried !

Jangol - Where you look up through inbetween the pipes and see the 2 holes they should have a threaded insert to bolt your R&G tail bracket into. If they are not there then that's a bit more tricky.

Have you taken your seat unit off ?

  10. So... You have just this underneath?

Four bolts into the underside of the heatshield... Two bolts either side for the can hanger straps & those two silver bolts that would normally hold the OEM plate hanger..... Those two bolts are what the R&G would fit to... Job done..... The bigger question here is where is your indicator loom?... At a guess I'd say tucked up behind the black heatshield?..... Sounds like you have the ideal opportunity here to go for the super clean look & pop some indicators in the rear vents..... Just a thought.

  12. @Hutch Thanks for the pic.. I'm missing that all together :( so I have nothing to attach my R&G Tail tidy to... I'm also missing the rear wiring for rear lights & indicators....

  13. ?? How are the exhausts attached to the bike then?.... Dont fret about the wiring either... The connection blocks will still be there & there is precious little to fire up off that loom aside from the indicators & plate lamp... Really easy to build another loom.. A solder iron & a multimeter are your friend.. You anywhere near the midlands? I could help you with it if you needed?..... Edit, Bedfordshire then.. I'm in Atherstone so between Nuneaton & Tamworth.. Not a million miles away but your call bud....

  14. They are attached.. I hope.. Will take some pics when I get in tonight, hopefully from there I can work out whats required to sort this rear end out.. I'll also take pics of the wiring bits.

  15. Thats for the best mate... Im certainly puzzled as to whats holding those cans on!!

  16. Yeah me too, unless you've got some sort of mega trick different exhaust system.

The exhausts hang here where the red arrows are.

I took this when I fitted the hanger a few years back. You can just see the bolts etc and the bracket at the top
