I am just in the process of changing my 1098 radiator and got to thinking why did the second one fail. I cannot see at the moment exactly where it is leaking but it is the same area as the first failure I got to thinking (can be dangerous me thinking) looking at the mounting points. Basically all the weight is taken by the two top mounts the bottom is located by pain in a rubber mount on the battery box Now experience with MV’s. Early MV’s were modified to have 2 radiators. The second one was attached to brackets on the bottom of the main radiator. After a few years the wieght of this and corrosion caused the top radiator to pull apart and leak. A bloke in the Uk solved it by designing a bracket that fastened the the bracket between the 2 radiators and the top mounting point. Thus the bottom radiator weight was supported from the frame There is nowhere near as much weight in the Ducati radiator but effectively it is only supported at the top.the paint on the Ducati Radiator is like the engine paint – shite. So I suspect that a little bit of corrosion coupled with the wieght of water and fans and heat cycles may cause it to fail. So I wonder if a bracket at the back of the radiator mounted to the frame mounting point might prevent it. Or simpler still spray the top corner of the radiator with ACF 50 every time the bike is cleaned to prevent the corrosion
