  1. Hi I am looking for some oversized ram air tubes for my 1098. I have seen loads on the internet but there for the race fairings not the road fairings. I dont want them in carbon fibre as there not seen. Fibre glass will be fine or does anybody out there open up the standard air tubes to 38mm I think? heard you get 5bhp from this alone as it lets more air into the 1098 engine. thanks :)

  2. Has anybody done there own standard ones?

  3. Sounds interesting keep me posted on what you find out please.

    Regards Steve

  4. I have read that the intakes restrict air flow into the engine on a 1098. It's nothing to do with the ram air effect. It's the diameter of the tubes that's to small. If you look at the race air tubes there a bigger diameter than standard. A guy on another forum tested them on the dyno and just changing the air tubes gave 5hp not bad for a simple mod. There is a way of heating up the standard ones and put something down them to make them bigger. There's just one point at the front that to small. image.jpg

  5. Not sure about fibreglass, i know EVR make some larger items in carbon fibre, but they may only be compatible with their enlarged carbon-fibre airbox.

MWR air filters fit better than the OEM item, and are well worth buying (one filter per side) - Heard a story about the OEM filter, and if it doesn't sit/seal right on both sides it can cause an imbalance/vaccum between the left and right hand side air tubes, robbing the bike of power.

That might be your first point of call - Possibly.

May not have much truth in it - But well worth checking out all the same.

But yes, if you do find any fibreglass ones, i'd certainly be interested too.

  6. I have fitted the mwr 2 part filters this week. Not had chance to test it yet though. Think I will buy a second hand pair of tubes and see if I can make them bigger. I have heard it needs to go to around 38mm. Big change on standard so I wouldn't want to damage the set on my bike.
