It is claimed that allowing the moisture absorbed from the ethanol in petrol to evaporate, the tank will mostly recover its original shape. I don’t know how long you are supposed to leave the tank or whether having a warm, dry (low humidity) environment accelerates the process. I had 2 tanks swell and tried to reverse the damage with limited success. AFAIK, I bought the last new OE tank from Ducati 5 or 6 years ago but you just might be lucky to find one in one of the few specialists in Italy. Andy
Plus, try and only use zero-ethanol fuel (Esso Supreme?,depending on where you live! Apparently not available, due to technical supply reasons, in Devon, Cornwall, North Wales, North England and Scotland). Oops - just seen you live in Wales!
Pishh , sold my 1198 with a lovely aluminium tank... Thanks for the tips, will dry it out over winter and see what happens
