Well, I've been keeping an eye open for an alloy tank for the 1098R for a while and bought one today. Mainly for the increased capacity, but for aesthetics too. As it's not painted, the world is my lobster when deciding which way to go with it. Does anybody have any ideas? Standard red? I doubt it, but not out of the question. A stripe like the 1198SP? I do like this scheme, I have to say. How about Hot Rod style? A Tour de France tribute? Or do what Ducati did with the 999R Fila and stick a cheap sports brand logo on it? Seriously though. Does anybody have any ideas that might suit the bike?
I thought you would have been a plain red type of girl. I don't know where I got that idea about you from.
It is new, but no. I managed to find it online bought for a project by a guy, but has laid unused for a couple of years.
Agree with cooky. I reckon it's one of the best things you can do to these bikes because of the extra 2 litres? Love the stripe one.
I know exactly what I am going to do with mine (non of the above) but the best option for the 1098R I'll have to Power point it for you You also need to be careful re painting as whoever painted mine last made a school boy error (according to my painter - I would have made the same mistake) Wait till AC see's that picture of your battery discharge
Cool. I knew you were going to do something with the beater. Like I say Stu, I'm just looking for ideas, bu the 1198SP looks the best I have seen upto now. Now I'm getting the tank, I can start to look for inspiration. I'd like to see what you are going for. I'm not going to do this myself. I'll get my friend who did the Desmo seat unit for me to do it. He doesn't make mistakes.
Deffo a better option out there - more in keeping too, that was my second choice though with the SP stripes funnily enough
Keep it subtle and in keeping with the original scheme or an existing Ducati design. I like the SP silt ever but not sure how it would look with the white/gold number boards? Perhaps edge the number boards in silver? Could be done with lining tape so can be removed if required. Alternatively, I'll take it off your hands and put it on my R shed....
Mornin' Here is the SP tank on my R, Looks ok with white boards imo, but I feel there it's a bit too disco now with all the shiney gold n silver. Solid red is probably most classy Anyway you'll like the extra range and feel of the ally job / all the best Andy
Paint it standard, and leave the Ducati as bare alli IMHO. Looks better than as if you've just managed to source one from and SP and couldn't be bothered to paint it
Hmm. It's a beautiful tank, showing a sneaky bit of Ali would look great, but gold and Ali clash a bit in my opinion. I've got a tricolore tank on my 'S' the gold ties in with the wheels and pinstripe but I'm not sure if I like it. I've just bought an 'R' tank and I'm toying with changing it as I'm thinking classic plain red with white decal is best. However on my Panigale the bare aluminium tank looks great with the gold forks and white decals, or maybe that's just because that's how it is and we're just used to seeing it! Having OCD is a real pain!
