1098r low rpm pick up

  1. Hi,
Has anybody experienced an indecent lack of power at low rpm on a 1098r. It never used to happen, but it has manifested itself on the last couple of rides. You enter a 2nd gear corner, low speed, go to pick the throttle up, and virtually nothing happens. It thens splutters a bit, picks up and then does its usual rip ypur arms off thing (Nothing wrong with the last bit!). It seemed to start after I got caught in one of our wonderful Summer downpours. The bike is cleaned and dry etc, battery charged, but still does it. My deler said check the regulator / fuse connections etc, but all seems fine. It does have a bit of a trick exhaust on it, with the lambda sensors removed, but I rode it a couple of times in this state without problems.
    Any thoughts?

    Many thx.

  2. My only suggestion would be to get it hooked up to a diagnostic tool, but that sounds to me like you're getting a poor spark, but then again that wouldnt explain it pulling like a train when up in the revs?? hmmmmm :frown:

  3. I had a bad plug that made the bike behave similarly, was rubbish on tick over and low RPM, but absolutely fine in thrash mode... May be worth £20 on new plugs?

If it is doing it on tick over, thy ruining the bike on one plug at a time an see what happens.

  4. I had a broken spark plug head due to overtightening at last service and this is what it felt like. Power on -power off. However it came with backfiring and the smell of unburned fuel. I would check the clutch area. Maybe worn plates.. If open clutch cover maybe moisture inside..

  5. Has the ecu been modded to compensate for the lambdas being disconnected?

  6. He'd have a cel light up on the dash if the lambda's were just unplugged.
