1098s, 1098r, 1098s Tricolore Or 1198sp

  1. Hello everyone. I thought I'd chance my hand with a wanted post.

If anyone is looking to sell privately - I'm looking to buy one of the following:

1098S - must be red and fairly standard, ultra low mileage (sub 5k miles, lower the better), and 'as new' condition.
1098S Tricolore - must be fairly standard, low mileage (sub 10k miles) and excellent or 'as new' condition. If not extremely low mileage, good history or bills/services MoTs required.
1098R - fairly standard and not a Troy Bayliss model - if modded, preferably durability mods like nova/superfinished gearbox for example - excellent condition, condition more important than miles, but sub 10k miles unless a good price or documented rebuild done.
1198SP - must be fairly standard, in red, at least excellent condition, sub 10k miles. If not very low mileage, good history or bills/services MoTs required.

The bike will be going to a good home as a 4th bike and a keeper doing 500 miles a year, hence focus on condition and then mileage. I understand there are loads of great bikes that fall outside my criteria above... but not what I'm looking for.

I'm monitoring all of the normal sources for sale (MCN, E-bay, here, autotrader) and based in Kent - not in a rush and don't have time to travel to the ends of UK to see a bike, so ideally based in Midlands, South or south east, but for a 1098R I'll travel more! I'm not offering below market trade money or taking the mick - will pay fair price for right bike.

    Cheers!

  2. Good luck finding what you are looking for. :upyeah: The 1098 is really starting to earn some fans these days.

  3. Thanks - alas sold my 1198 due to a back issue that's largely resolved. Unfortunately the friend of a friend I sold it to, did this to it at Paddock Hill bend at Brands, shortly after I sold it to him :(

  4. Only a scratch. Bit of qbond and some rattle cans and I'd have her good as new.

  5. DMC Moto in Preston have a 1098r in. Looks a pretty fine example although I maybe don't have a trained eye for these things. 6000 miles.

  6. Thanks - does look nice - saw it when it came up on e-bay and following Mr Tea's info on it in the 1098R thread. Concur it's at least £1k overpriced even for retail. If it was £14.5k private seller, would likely already be in the garage :)

  7. Spend the extra £1k now if you intend it as a forever bike. You'll forget all about it soon enough.

  8. It's part investment and part fun - plus that's over retail and I'm looking private, so a good £2k+ over private price unfortunately.

  9. why not troy bayliss? they are very nice indeed! and you are missing 1198r from your wish list?

  10. I sincerely wish you good luck with finding a genuine private sale in the UK. I've seen 4 sold through Moto Rapido in the last 12 months and in that same period 28 forum members have declared ownership. I'm pretty confident that none of them are looking to sell any time soon (for realistic money). The 1098R for whatever reason is the current must have bike and you will only see prices increase here on in. I do however agree that the 1098R currently on sale at DMC is overpriced but they have got to recover the cost of the out of warranty gearbox rebuild which even at internal prices would have cost at least a couple of grand. Andy

  11. The Bayliss is getting genuinely rare and your 1198R is rarer the hen's teeth, rocking horse poo and gold dust all put together. Not even a tinge of jealousy in that last bit of course :upyeah:. Andy

  12. when i was buying my paginale dealer had 1198SP new one for sale in black. i could have had it for 13k
bloody wish i bought it instead of pani which lost half the value and to be honest is not all that! same time same dealer had desmo for sale at 28k. admittedly i was buying commuter ,so desmo was not even in consideration but i only wish i got SP or desmo instead of what i got now! more fun commuting anyway

  13. Like the Fila 999R, Bostrom and Hodgson 996/8 reps, the Bayliss just doesn't do it for me I'm afraid. Also a sucker for gold wheels. :)

Similarly the 1198R on colours tastes. As the bike will be ridden, the Carbon fairing/tail actually worries me a little on the 1098R. I've been lucky enough to ride Spareparts' 1098R in Portugal/Spain on a trip last year and his mods have made it an absolute weapon as well as easier to ride than my 1198 was. If I'm honest I'm secretly rooting for a 1098S Tricolore though just as they are my favourite aesthetically, but it's whatever comes up that ticks my set of subjective boxes.

  14. I just bought a sooper dooper bargain spare tail unit for mine. I may have mentioned it. ;)

  16. Yeah hawkeye, I've just turned the rads off. It's been about 15° all winter. It's not getting cold enough to hit the dew point now.

  17. :Watching:

  18. as mentioned the 999 r fila would be an excellent bike to have.
