Anyone on here have any good suspension setup data after fitting 1098S Ohlins forks in to a 998 ? For info I am running the standard adjustable Ohlins rear shock on the 998, and have had both the forks and shock stripped and rebuilt and the correct springs for my weight (fat) installed.
Start with sitting the sag loaded/unloaded. If the springs have been swapped to suit your weight, does the company that did that not have recommended damping settings?
Yes we will do the sag setup, but I was wondering more about how far through the yokes people have them at and what they have found good.
I see, what you are asking for is advice on the geometry, not the suspension settings. I would suggest replicating the original 998 distance to spindle/bottom yoke (no weight on suspension) .
I have 1098 Ohlins in my 916 though I did have Ktech fit their valving at the same time as lighter springs (9.5 IIRC) - the standard springs were too heavy, though 916/998 is a heavier bike than 1098 so not as light a spring as would be required on a 1098. I have them set with the fourth ring level to the top of the yoke on the inside (yokes are tapered down to the outside), setup the sag and fiddled with the adjusters when I fitted them and they are great, certainly a big improvement over the old Showas to which I also had Ktech valving fitted, improving them over the original setup. I'm not a track day rider but for road use I find them perfect, supple yet firm and planted, never out of shape - the old Showas were/are good (I now have them fitted to the Monster) but they were never quite as supple over bad road surfaces and can get a little choppy at times whilst, at the same time more likely to bottom out under heavy braking etc.
