went for a short ride out on my newly aquired 1098s last week, and it did feel good but a little slow to turn in. I wondered if the previous owner may have lowered the ride height? Is there a measurement for standard ride height? I've looked in the manual but that didn't shead much light. For some reason it's got odd tyres on too a pilot road on the back and a Rosso on the front that might not be helping. Anything else that may effect it? I have a Aprilia RST Futura that handles better at the mo Thanks in advance.
More than likely that he's never had anything at all done with regards to any settings and it's still factory set.... mine was a pig for it when I first got it. Have a look here for a rough idea Suggested Sport Bike Motorcycle Suspension Settings | Sport Rider Biggest change I did to mine was setting the sag up for my weight. Used the sports bike rider settings for compression and rebound to start out as a base and took those from there. If playing about with the settings ain't your thing then there a loads of places or suspension guys at track days that will do it for around £40 Can honestly say it transformed mine and wish I'd done it sooner rather than battle the bloody thing for the first year!
same tyres for a starters, check the rear ride height to see if it is max bottom, and forks to see if they are high in the yokes. 2 ways to go: set everything to factory and work from there or take someone else's settings No idea of a good road setting for a 1098, an 848 had a fixed rear ride height which was a few mm taller than 1098 as standard and I found that fine with the forks showing 3 or 4 rings thru the top of the yoke, then as said above set up all the sag.
the 1098 is more than capable of achieving the classic ducati geometry numbers, yes the same number as the 748 996 998 999, its just that when it does the seat height is too high for the average short arse.....thats why they compromised the rear ride height to get the seat lower...and hence a less responsive front end so 1 sort the tyres out, whoever put odd ones on needs sacrificing 2 get the ride height adjusted using a ducati ride height tool to achieve around 230mm to 245 mm at the rear....arse end up. 3 get the suspension adjusted to you...
Cheers guys I pretty convinced the ride height has been altered looking at the adjuster. Where are you measuring the 230-245mm from Andy? No idea why the tyres are odd I'm thinking of sticking with the pilot road 3 though, am I mad for this bike or will they be ok? (I have pilot road 4's on my sports tourer and really rate them) I backed the steering damper off whist out, think it was set fairly slack anyway.
Quick google search will sort you out http://www.ducati.org/forums/attach...fgrt803-ttx-ride-height-ride-height-tool1.bmp
Ride height can also be messed up quite simply, if someone has rotated the eccentric hub in the wrong direction when tensioning the chain.
I'd already brought it by then though. I'm not worried I'm sure with the pennies I saved I can sort it out.
I have pilot 3's on streetfighter, they are good but don't warm up as quick as the std tyres fitted on Duc sports bikes. The rosso's give about 2,500 - 3000 miles on a rear tyre, The pilot 3's are a little harder but will give you more longevity. Currently I have 4,500 miles on my 3's on the SF and still loads of tread left. So what do you want super grip or long tyre life ?
I'm surprised at that I'd of thought the pilot roads would have warmed up quicker than the rosso's. Not really too bothered about longevity as it won't be going touring but it would be nice to get a 2000-3000 out of a rear.
Well the new tyres have made a massive difference. Feels much better now just need to soften it up a little and it will be perfect!
