Hi all, I was wondering what tool or app do yu use when tensioning the cam belts. Seen a few ways on YouTube but was looking for the concensus on what performed the best. Cheers steve
I much preferred the method on the older bikes with a 5mm and 6mm Allen Key, but for my newer bikes I've tried lots of Apps on my phone, including the Gates one, but couldn't get any to give me a repeatable result. I now use the one that is part of JPDiag on my laptop with a small separate Microphone and find I get very repeatable results.
I was also told by several different sources that I should not use the older 5/6mm Allen Key method on the 1000DS motors in my 1000SS and M1000. They are of course 2-valve.
I used the gates app on my old 1000DS for 3 sets of belts, never an issue. I also tried the allen key method which many people have used for years, I just preferred the Hz method as it seemed more accurate, also use the Gates app on my 1200, it does need to be in a quiet environment when used.
I just couldn't get the Gates app to work, apparently they updated it? Tried loads of different ones, and found that even with a weak "twang" the Spectoid App would record something. (I did read that the fluorescent lamps can affect the input)
