has anyone fitted clip ons to an 1100 evo or a monster of any flavour? i'm interested in what is required as well as how it felt to you afterwards in terms of comfort, riding position etc. i've been riding it with the stock bars since i bought it in january and would like a sportier riding position as i will be spending the winter doing skills days [track days with tuition] yet don't really want the hassle of selling/buying a new bike as i really love the monster for commuting. would i need a new top clamp? also what brands are best for quality, adjustability etc? i am not usually worried about price but on this occasion i don't want to be spending £500+ only to find i don't like the end result.
The M1100evo has a 20mm taller riser than the M1100. You can lower the bars just by swapping the riser, that’s what I did. It makes the riding position the same as the M1100. If you want to go lower then there are probably flatter bars available that can do that, unless you really want clip-ons. You can also make the original bars a bit narrower. I found that made riding more comfortable at speed, so you might find that better for track use.
thanks, i didn't know that. i think i'll try different spacers and maybe rotating the bar just to get a feel of the dropped height before making a decision. i use the bar to mount a gear indicator and occasionally a satnav so not fixated on clip ons for the sake of having them. was discussing with a friend this evening and he doesn't think it'd be in any way comfortable/capable with clip ons. i'm not sure i agree. i have gilles adjustable rearsets and was looking at the gilles clip ons that adjust for reach, height and angle.
