hi, I'm having snags with the idle on my 2012 1198. When it gets warm it goes from the normal 1400-1450 rpm to about 2000. It's proving a bit of a snag as it makes towns and whatnot a tad unfortunate. It seems to slow back to normal if I ease the twist grip towards shut, more than the stop would. The cables seem free, and snap positively shut when released. I've tried adjusting the cable adjusters by the headstock but got nowhere. Any ideas please? Thanks, Ian.
Mine did this, was very embarrassing at the lights travelling through Central London. Mine was due to the wrong map being on there so changed that (and did the TPS at the same time) and that fixed it.
Can the person (Hughdg) who disagrees with my statement above - that MY one owner bike has been remapped, and that I believe that the fault is a recent thing please let me know the if logic? Confused!
Could be several things of course but the fact that you can restore idle manually would suggest it's mechanical. Inspecting cable runs and butterflies at throttle bodies for debris or binding and then balancing bodies and resetting air bleeds and TPS might do it.
These bikes have an idle control valve (stepper motor) located below the throttle bodies which controls the idle speed. It may be sticking and a clean out with carb cleaner might help although it does sound more like a cable/butterfly issue.
