1198 Immobilisers Fault

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by bomaris, May 6, 2015.

  1. Hi can any one shed some light on this PLEASE
bike runs perfect in dry weather, when it rains the immobiliser comes up bike wont start, i have had it looked at by several Duc techs now cannot find any thing wrong, someone suggested the anttena could be faulty, so changed that no good! if you wash the bike the immo come on soon as the water has drained a little you can then start the bike, i have tried wiggling the anttena around and sometimes this clears the immo? but not always, someone also suggested that the clocks may be letting moisture in which causes the same fault? And before any bright sparks says, dont ride it in the wet everyone gets caught out sometimes, last year i missed the ferry at Dover because it was raining and i then had to dismantle the steering lock cover and try to blow the water away! whilst sitting in the line for the next ferry.

  2. My 1098 did that but it was the antenna. Have you tried the over ride code does that not work?

  3. No good point i will try that tomorrow, prob throw a bucket of water over the old girl! cheers

  4. Ok, i had a long chat with Glen at Moto V great guy!:upyeah: he said that because i had an aftermarket carbon ignition cover, the antenna may not be in the correct position now? i stripped it all back down cleaned and then put silicone around the plug, re- positioned the antenna the put silicone to hold in place, re-fitted cover, it started first time i then started throwing water around, it seems to have worked? but time will tell.

  5. Even with the stock surround I suffered this problem. I found that by shimming the surround with some washers to raise it slightly above the lock cured the problem.

  6. Er... correct me if I'm wrong but you've already answered your own question?

When it gets wet, the bike cannot read the immobiliser code from the key.
When it dries, the bike can read the immobiliser code from the key.

You may want to follow the cable of the aerial from the ignition down to the connector on the left side of the headstock and put the rubber cover back in the correct position (open at the bottom) so that water doesn't collect inside and shorts the aerial connector? ;)

  7. Yes i have checked the plug connector, and now i have sealed it up, so hopefully Hay Presto!!

  8. It's important that the cover is also aligned correctly to stop water getting into it (and staying inside!) otherwise problems could still occur. I had exactly the same issue with my Hypermotard and protecting the aerial connector has sorted it!
