For Sale 1198r, Deposit Taken!

  1. Yes that's right - i decided to sell my 1198R. Its sitting here in my heated and very low humidity garage and with 4 other bikes, and with the crappy roads around here, realistically I am not going to ride it much. Plus our riding season is only about 4 months. And I also am looking to buy a vintage bike to restore and give me something to do in winter. Here is the info:

It was bought new from GP Motorcycles in San Diego by the first owner, who traded in a 1949 Vincent for it in June 2010. He kept it for four years and put only 279 miles on it, selling it in July 2014 to a well known Ducati enthusiast in LA who had it serviced and belts changed at Pro Italia in LA. While it was in the shop he also had some mods fitted - CRG carbon levers, CNC clutch cover and rearsets, fender eliminator, EVR clutch slave and Ducabike frame plugs. Termis and race ECU fitted. He rode it around LA very occasionally over the next 5 years, along with all the other bikes in his collection including a Desmo. I bought the bike this year with 871 miles on the odometer. I had the belts changed by the head tech at Pro Italia before taking delivery, as they were 5 years old.

This bike has never been dropped or tracked. And of course it’s still running in. It still has the original (date correct) tyres fitted. Big chicken strips on them. I have ridden it 15 miles and it runs and rides perfectly as would be expected. There are no visible marks, dings or paint chips anywhere on the bike. No visible flaws that I can find (and I am picky). The original take off parts were not present with the bike when I bought it but it does include the tool kit, both keys and the key code card. Clean and clear Michigan title.

Everyone on here knows about the 1198R, but just in case - several sources quote Ducati official info which states that only 70 were built worldwide. Due to the financial crisis of 2008-09, a number of 1098R Bayliss were left unsold and so in 2009, US dealers didn’t want to sign up for the 1198R. By the time the bike was first shown, it was too late to order more and Ducati refused to relent. General consensus is that only 7 were ordered by dealers in the US. However it appears that up to 17, including press bikes, made it over, but fewer than that were actually sold and remained in the US. This bike is #10. As with most other Ducati special editions, only the US bikes are numbered on the top yoke. It has a 17 digit VIN, which confirms its not a bike originally built to be supplied to a race team.

The price is $37K, which is about £28,500. Payment by bank wire to my US account. I have sold 3 of my bikes to the UK, and will work with the shipper on collection etc. I can provide references for the 3 UK buyers if anyone wants them. I can take any additional pics/video as needed. Obviously there is shipping and duty to pay outside the US. More hi res pics are here https://flic.kr/s/aHsmKhi2pT
