1198s First Ride

  1. Ice all over and air temp of 1 to 3 degrees and on supercorsa bsb tyres lol
Even road through sheet ice and snow up at Blubberhouses through the twisty sections which are in a ravine which was interesting

Not ideal for my first ride but have to say blown away by the power and handling as compared to my previous bikes
The sound from the full race termis is also epic!
Had traction control on at highest and it kept coming at low speeds which I assume is just the way it works
Will try on less setting next time out
Really really impressed by how nimble it feels and turn in
Acceleration is simply mind blowing and need to very careful as would be v easy to get pulled at insane speeds

    Pros -

    Handling - totally unexpected
    Grunt
    Sound

    Negs -

    Headlights steamed up
    Mirrors are truly awful

Slipper clutch - not sure really
I am used to the aggressive decelleration of a v-twin - I use it a lot and blip on change downs usally feeding clutch as I want it to bite - in essence me being a slipper clutch ! - this makes it feel almost like a four
It is set up for race / track - I guess that means it slips more ? If I go to a road set up with mix of plates and stack height will it slip less?

  2. On my DP slipper you have 3 levels you can set it to depending on how much you want it to slip. Mine is on medium and it doesn't really kick in on the road. I did this as if I went for a more aggressive slip, I'd go through the clutch quicker. It really kicks in on the track though, when I'm banging through the gears and made a hell of a difference. I don't think I'd go back.

it could be that your slipper is set the most aggressive setting and could be toned down a bit so it doesn't kick in so much on the road.

    p.s. nice bike.

  3. Matt - not sure what you mean by settings?

Mine is the DP version with the racing kit assembly
The instructions dont show anything re settings - only shows two different 'stacks' and I beleive that I have the most aggressive stack set up for racing
I would like it to slip less but not sure how to achieve this?
Still have a pile of the original plates from whe it was fitted as its got the convex and sintered in there now

  4. All I know is when I had it fitted I was asked if I would like it to be, for want of an expression, soft/ medium/ hard, relating to how much action it has. I suggest a call to your local dealer to ask the question.

as you say you have it set up for racing so the action will be really aggressive, perhaps too much for the road.
