1199 1199 Bar End Removal

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Ivor, Aug 10, 2023.

  1. I need to fit a brake guard to my 1199 but it has bar ends fitted. Anyone know what type and size the sunk 'nut' is to get them off? Looks like Torx and bigger than 12mm which is the largest I currently have

  2. If I remember rightly, think they are the same as my 959 - they are a 12point 14mm tool. If you use a torx it rounds off (I tried that)

if you anywhere near Kings Lynn welcome to borrow mine for the 3seconds of use required!

  3. Ah thank you, perfect! I thought they looked like torxs but weren't.
I'm in Fishguard, as far as you can get from kings Lynn I suspect, but your offer is very much appreciated

Standard 12 Allen does the job fine.

  5. I also use a 12mm Allen key on mine.

  6. Thanks both, I'll give that a go

  7. Ok, so I have a 12mm Allen key that fits, how do the ends come off? Gently tried unscrewing but does not budge, either side ..

  8. Try unscrewing harder, they can be tight :)

  9. Put an extension on the Allen key, off now, thank you!

  10. I hit mine with a lump hammer it does the trick.

  11. My usual last resort, couldn't find the mallet so used an extension bar

  12. when I did my bar ends I bought a XZN Torx set, which fully engages with this spline fitting well.

  13. Correct. But much more limited use on Ducati (I only purchased my torx set when I got a BMW. Every bolt on them is Torx).

  14. The 12mm Allen worked perfectly on mine, I don't have a full torx set
