1199 extended warranty

  1. I need to make a choice over this quick but my dealer has said that nobody has taken one out on a panigale from them yet and that ducati are usually very good at sorting problems outside of warranty , I have had experience of this with my 848 radiator and it was sorted free but do I go for the warranty or not , bike was ex demo so probally one of the very early ones and I purchased with 900 miles on in march this year and has now done 3.5k .

  2. how much is it gonna cost,

  3. Yeah... thats the key? how much? and is it full parts and with ducati direct? not an aftermarket firm.

  4. Its the 1 year full ducati extension and they think around the £450 mark . no to happy with price as I have the non abs base model so no electronic suspension to go wrong etc so should be cheaper in my opinion

  5. its like everything if you take it you wont need it if you don't you will ,,,, I wouldn't take it as everything has an expected life time so may be covered if it does go wrong, which if anything like mine will ,,,

  6. Personally I would take it - I have had mine since March and it has been back a few times to get things sorted, new dash, clutch slave, starting problems, random engine mgmt lights coming on and now engine being stripped down to see why it is losing oil and fouling the plugs on the front cylinder -Waiting on the autopsy on that one!!

Haven't had this much grief on a bike ever so will be renewing without a shadow of a doubt

  7. Must admit I am concerned about all the horror stories but also that there must be loads that haven't had problems ... Maybe chop it in for the 899 lol

  8. But if I take it what will I then do when that extra year is up ? Sell for peanuts as who is gonna buy one without a warranty so only option in a year will be part exchange for a low price . love the bike and only problem I've had is the indicator fault and since having the chain and sprocket upgrade its made it 100 times better. Never even thought about extended warranties with map stuff lol

  9. I have heard of one incident where the crankcase became porous; Ducati replaced the engine; but it was a huge job so glad the warranty covered it. I personally would seriously consider it if you have had any issues at all; if not then I probably wouldn't bother.

I agree that Ducati have a history of being pretty reasonable with out of warranty stuff as long as it is full Ducati main dealer history.

  10. I was told by my dealer it was £280. My bikes only 12 months old but I will be taking it out when the time comes as you'll soon rack up £280 for the most simple of repairs. After that has run out I will be taking out an extended warranty with a third party company. I did this with my 1098 for £240/year with 'Warranty Direct'. They cover all the parts and labour for £4000 of work per claim. I never claimed as nothing went wrong. I had it for 3 years. Some may say that £240 could have been put into a slush fund to pay for any problems but I thought I might jinx the bike if I cancelled the policy!!. The reviews for Warranty Direct are varied with some people saying they are great and others who think they are robbers but one thing they are strict about is keeping up with service schedule, if you don't they won't pay up if it goes bang. But to be honest most people with Ducati's only do a few miles and are on top of the maintenance.

  11. Before you do it, be sure you'll do nothing to your bike that will void the warranty.. any Add on electronics device will do that. as will any third party exhaust mapping ECU reflashes..

even stuff that comes from Corse will do that...

from what i hear, the rules for warranty intervention have tightened.. pe : fogging dashes are no longer replaced since the new ones have breatherwholes and the fogging disappears after a while..

  12. Must admit I have never purchased extended warranty on any cars or bikes before until I bought a Audi Rs6 and a Ducati Panigale.

Audi warranty paid out over 12k in three years so easily worked out in the money. On bikes always had Jap bikes and never had any issues..

I ride my Panigale daily so probably rack up 6k per year (it isnt a garage queen) so will deffo be taking one out on it as repairs just cost so much to do

  13. I would question the price. it should be around £280 as quoted on here

  14. I would do it for sure for £280, not so sure I would for £400

  15. I get the impression from my dealer that if you've looked after the bike, the dealer backs your case and you're a reasonable person, Ducati will look after you, even if your bike is out of warranty.

The thing to find out is who underwrites this policy and what is included/excluded ?

  16. Its Ducati warranty no limit on mileage or parts exactly as the original but excludes the breakdown recovery

  17. This is what i've been told by the dealer I got the pani from and to be honest they have been fantastic with looking after my multistrada 1200 as well even though I got it from another dealer , and as for cost dealer has confimed the £280

  18. I will extend the warranty on my 1199s for sure, did it on my 848 never had a thing go wrong in 4 years thou.
But for peace of mind, whats a few hundred against a 20k bike.

  19. I was also quoted £280 and will seriously consider it nearer the time or if I plan to sell the bike. I don’t think the cost is a big issue when you consider todays labour rates. £280 can be eaten up just finding a problem let along fixing it.

  20. just did mine, glad I checked as the day I called in was the LAST day, apparently they are militant on the dates, so don't miss yours. 280quid for another years peace of mind makes sense to me. i've had 3 lower fairing panels, melted hugger and come other bits, each of which likely would cost 280!
