1199 Newbie (edinburgh -ish)

  1. Hello,

Recently ordered and waiting for a new 1199. I come here after most recently owning KTM's RC8 and RC8R.

The latest bike having done 900 miles. I loved the Ktm but became absolutely fed up with the brand, the nearest dealer and problems the bikes.

I wanted an 1199 since it's release and should have bought one ages ago. I've read a couple of threads and am sad to see the occasional issue, akin to those on the Ktm. I have to say, had I looked at this forum in the last year or so I'd have steered clear of the 1199 owing to some of the posted issues.

Save for an appalling test ride where I rode straight out into an hour's worth of traffic, I've not ridden the 1199 at all.

Years ago I used to own a 749 and loved it. I didn't keep it long yet never had any issues with it at all (save for the servicing costs).

Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting the bike immensely and wish you happy riding with yours.

I enjoyed the Ktm forum (a right good craic) and hope to enjoy this one.

    DC.

  8. Ah, I see. You lost me for a second there, sorry. Close but not quite, Elvis.

  9. Ok, I'll take a look thank you. Snow is about right; Scotland's equivalent of wrooom at Madonna Di Campiglio (or whatever it's called).

    Thanks.

  10. Welcome to the forum buddy, and fellow (past) KTM owner.

I had a SuperDuke then a SuperDuke R, loved both of them and only the SDR let me down with a coolant pipe blowing off and covering the rear wheel with glycol, which was interesting.

I'm still a huge fan of the brand and besides that one fault the bikes were trouble free. The dealer network was OK if not expensive. Services were stupidly expensive, a major one cost me near £1k and the dealer told me I'd got off lightly because it had taken his mechanic 1.5 days.

One of the great things about Ducati is they listen and care. Heck, you can even email them and get a helpful reply. On one occasion they even called me, I was shocked. Imagine KTM or any other bike manufacturer doing than.

  11. Hello and welcome. This place isn't (or at least I hope its not) as savage as the KTM forum. Oh and please forgive @El Toro He calls everybody Dave....because he thinks he's funny. Just be glad he prefers Only Fools to Hi de Hi!

  12. Ding ding ding
    Good morning campers
    :)

    Watch out for the locals

  13. Welcome.

  14. Hi, Im from Newtongrange. :upyeah:

  15. Thanks for the messages. Yes, the KTM forum could be savage however more often than not I enjoyed the input of others. The bike arrives in 2 weeks or so I'm told.

I'll post up a couple of the almost obligatory Newbie type questions I guess over the next few days.

A7 on your doorstep then bootsam? Not a bad road (if quiet).

  16. Welcome fella.

  17. I live in Surrey nowadays. :upyeah: Left 'Nitten' when I was a wee yin. The A7 nearer the borders ive only ever travelled by car. :(

  18. Hi there. Had a KTM last year as well....660 supermoto - had fate not have stepped in the way id have had it now and not the hyper that ive now got....I must confess all the spares that I bought for the 660 were incredibly cheap, in fact the cheapest ive come across on any bike ive had...ie the whole front light assembly from a 2013 exc cost me 45 quid including the bulb...

Anyway, welcome to the social club....at least that's what Rich at Louigimoto tells me when I go in....verified the last time I was there by 7 blokes turning up with 1 petrol tank who stayed for 2 hours and finished off all of his coffee...

  19. The only bits I ever bought for the RC8's were extortionate. Not Ducati extortionate but extortionate nonetheless.

With a name like Luigimoto I'm imagining it was good coffee 'n all. None of yer freeze dried rubbish.
