  3. Any recommendations for setting the sag / compression / preload front & rear for a 1199 ? Watched a few you tube vids so have a bit of an idea what to fiddle with but any advice appreciated.
Rider weight 107 kgs. Going to have a go as off with a dodgy collar bone injure and thought I'd do something constructive .......

  4. Hi,
Theres not really a set of three different settings. The best I have found is after a lot of time watching Dave Moss videos on his website. The settings I came up with which re very similar to the settings he put into an 1199 on a trackway setup vid are:
    Front
Spring Preload: 3 full turns in from soft
Comp: 8 out from full in
Reb: 5 out from full in

    Rear
Rear static sag 10mm (around 8mm preload on the rear spring)
Comp: 8 out from full in
Reb: 5 out from full in.

Having spent some time with these I would say they are sporty road/track settings on the compression, but rebound and spring pre-load front and rear are good for all conditions, as well as rebound on the front and rear. If I was going to want something softer for comfort, I would go to 10 out comp on the front and 8 out comp on the rear.

I should admit that I now have an Ohlins TTX GP DU466 rear shock fitted which is super plush and a set of Ohlins FGRT 203 forks on the way. This isn't because the stock Marzocchi's and Sachs shock are that bad, but it was why I bought a base model rather than the S, so I could fit the same standard of suspension to the Pani, that I had on my 2016 Honda Fireblade SP.

I have seen some pretty wacky settings talked about for this bike but having watched a lot of the Dave Moss info over the years (and be aware some people don't like his style of set up) I have built up confidence in these settings, certainly on Norfolk roads and at Snetterton.

  5. I forgot to mention that I am 87kg, so you may want to try 6 turns on the front spring preload but it should be really be set to get you around 40mm total rider sag at the front and 30mm at the back.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  6. Thanks @Greyrobs , that's a massive help. Lots of the vids seem to be saying a standard rider sag dim, 30 - 40mm range, so hopefully I've understood the logic to it all.
Looking forward to having a fettle as the front seems a bit skittish and the rear too hard as it is set up.
    Thanks again :upyeah:

  7. Track set up front C10 R8, rear C8 R6, 7mm sag, 95kgs all up weight.

  8. Had a go at fiddling with the suspension as much as possible with limited dexterity.
Now I know why the bike handled like a plank !
Both forks - pre load fully in, com & rebound all different settings. Now set as to Greyrobs settings
Rear pre load seems ok , adjusted the C & R , now need the new clip on to arrive and have a potter next week once the physio has finished and given me the Ok ! She now settles front and rear :):upyeah:

  9. Correct set up shd mean front and rear sag and rise at same rate when stationary. Then fix a zip tie round a fork leg to see how much you are compressing the forks under braking. Ideally a centimetre from fully compressed.

  10. Just one thing I'm not too sure on. The suspensions link is set on " F" which I understand as a track base setting.
I'm not a track rider so I'm thinking I should be on "P" for the road.
Could anyone confirm which, I'm thinking P is the right setting.

  11. Flat is more for the track, Progressive is more for the road and if you have a pillion with you

  14. Wow that's so much better...... rode today and enjoyed the bike. Still firm next to the ZZR but ones a full on sports bike , the other isn't.
Thanks for all the advice, Mark
