if you have the time and the tools, just remove the fairing, otherwise it will be a nightmare to strip the bike for one screw...
Thank Ducati for choosing not to use tried and tested Well Nuts for the lower two screws. I wanted to change my 899 screen for one that at least had a shaded bottom to protect the dash from sunlight, but I couldn't be bothered to deal with the lower nuts in the end, due to being much more fiddly than any other bike I've owned.
i have done this and its not as bad as you think, mirrors off, remove nuts and side air duct cover, its comes off pretty easy its in a manual and theres a couple of vids on YT for me the worst bit was putting the mirrors back on, get stuck in, it probably needs a clean behind it all anyway
Just watch the little shark fins on u/s of fairing where it connects to the plastic 'dust cover' nr lower yoke. 1 Side fairings off 2 mirrors off 3 plastic cover for ignition off 4 side plastics on inside of fairing off 5 the plastic bits the side covers connect to either side of speedo, twist the ends that snick into the fairing edge out 6 snip zip ties connecting cabling to front fairing on either side 7 then remove fairing. Remember screw on u/s of fairing...
The 1st time is always a pain. After that, its a breeze. Just dont pull anything too hard (ooer missus). The bit on the front, centre to the lights theres a plastic extruded pin on inside of fairing that slides into a rubber grommit between the lights. Use a plastic flat tool to gently ease the fairing off, once you have undone all the bolts. There are 2 bolts on rear near the lighting blocks (one either side). From memory thats 2 bolts, 1 screw, some zip ties and the pin and mirrors that hold the fairing on.
I didn't take the nose cone off I glued a pair of well nuts to the bottom holes I cant remember changing the screen being a big deal.
You have my attention do you mean glue the well nuts to the new screen? How did you get the original well nuts off?
I did it this way when I fitted mine, looping the duct tape backwards and up the front of the screen helped immensely The other awkward job I did was to fit a black MRA screen, you can do it without taking the fairing off, or disconnecting the mirror indicator wires. I lost one of the front wellnuts down into the headlamp area, but luckily I was able to get it back out with a long steel "pick" as it was just sat on top of the headlamp shell. To get it back in, I duct taped the wellnuts onto the front of the screen, but lapped the tape backwards leaving a long piece to get hold of, this was enough for me to get the screen in place, fit the front two screws and once they were tightened I then pulled the long piece of duct tape and it came out nicely from behind the fairing.
yes mate super glue them I’ve done it a few times like Poucher quotes you might lose the originals but fish them out also I had problems with a Puig screen fit the mirrors wouldn’t close fully so I went Power bronze see pic they take some hammer these Ducati’s when working on them even though it takes a bit longer than the average bike Good luck
Just one thing, don’t use superglue, it sets off environmental stress cracking in polycarbonate, abs etc Second paragraph https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environmental_stress_cracking Just try and tape them on till you get a screw started
My 899 mirrors fold, thought the 1199s were the same as the fairings are same on both bikes? Didn’t think they did fixed mirrors until 959/1299 ? Could be wrong though
I’ll look into this. My Panigale R mirrors don’t fold, and are bloody easy to break. I tried the MotoScience Ones, but didn’t get away with them at all. Ugly and short.
