1199R Engine temperatures

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by mygreenalien, May 24, 2013.

  1. I live in the UAE and am running the first 1199r out here and there is not a lot of "knowledge" out here. I have done three track days so far and after todays, the engine ran consistently at temp of 95 - 100 deg C. Has anyone else experienced this and what did you do?

I know on the previous twins you could "burp" the cylinders to remove any trapped air - can this be done on the Pani?

    Any help appreciated.

  2. Maybe start by removing the thermostat?

  3. There's a product called water wetter which is supposed to help reduce temperatures, you could also try putting in a manual fan switch but i doubt it'd do too much at higher speeds as the air flow is probably more than the fan could provide anyway. Only other thing would be a race kit radiator. On older bikes you can also get better water pumps too, but i know nothing about the panigale really, apart from how much i want one.
But the temp doesn't sound too high anyway to tell you the truth. Bit much if you were cruising the shops on it, but not for track use in hot climate.

  4. Nothing wrong with 95 to 100 thats the normal run temperature when ridden quite hard . If the fans are any thing like the older 999R they dont come on till 103 and 104 but only when at standstill or near.

  5. Thanks guys.

The interesting thing is a good friend of mine here had a 999RS which used to run at these temp, but then he burped the cylinder and it then ran 85 deg c (he said the difference in performance was significant).

Will have to look a little further into this

  6. I run Evans coolant in a number of bikes including my Ducati, it's a waterless coolant that runs at 0 psi and never boils or at least not until 180deg. It's a GREAT product used by many in Enduro and MX teams worldwide, Dakar rally, NASCAR and many more! Last for life of the engine too... Dowside the price! Maybe an option for a water less boil proof system.

Been using it for a year now no problems, been on long term daily test in my 2012 TDM900 that has an undersized OEM rad prone for running hot, just love the stuff!

  7. My Pani S regularly runs at 95-104 in those rare moments I ride through a town. Not an issue in my mind, especially at UAE Temps.
