Hi all, I am a motorcycle instructor and I have owned BMW GSes for 12 years; have had 2 x 1150s, 1 x 1200 and currently have an 800. I have never owned a Duke and am currently tempted by a 57 plate 1100 MS I've seen in my local independent I guess everybody should own a Ducati at least once in their biking career I will put another post in the MS section as I want some advice and info. Thanks all.
Having owned a 1200 GS and a 1000 strada, imo they are more different than many would think. GS was far more comfy, great all round fun and would have another. The multi was like a supermoto by comparison, was better on faster rides and felt more planted on fast corners and easy peasy hooligan tool with wheelies off the throttle a doddle. Did my back in tho... of the 2, if I had spare funds I'd be getting another Gs now for the winter, cant say I'd be doing the same with the strada
Hello and welcome? I'm sure you'll get lots of helpful advice from those in the know, and probably some piss taking from the rest of us!
I don't mind the piss taking as I can give as good as I get, I've been a member of UKGSER.com for 12 years and they don't take any prisoners there, it's no place for the thin skinned so bring it on. Thanks for the welcome all, I've stuck a post in the MS section asking a few questions and I would appreciate any help you can offer.
Hi and welcome to the forum. I ran a Multistrada 1200 for 18 months and look after my son's 620 Multi and have had my fair share of pleasure and pain from both bikes. I would say if you like touring quickly, enjoy the individuality of owning a slightly unusual bike and are prepared to put up with reliability that would be less than a Jap bike then Ducati could be for you. Think I would want a decent test ride of the bike and if you are doing lots of pillion work test it 2 up, good luck in whatever you decide to do.
Actually everyone he is very pleasant unlike some forums ,where as you say they take no prisoners. So welcome, and if you want a bike with character and individuality buy a Ducati.
Welcome. I've had a couple of GS12's. Great bikes. Met a few of the UKGSers on my travels too, GC's Lochy Bar in Fort William was a usual stop-off on the laps of the Highlands.
