1200 decat pipe and MOT

  1. Has anyone with a 10 model been through one yet? were there any issues? too loud etc?

Iv'e got my eye on a Mivv decat the MOT due in October. Unlike the 996 where it was just a change of cans, obviously changing the exhaust for the MOT on the 1200 is a bit more of an issue.

  2. Cant see how it will be an issue long as its not stamped 'not for road use' or is obscenely loud

  3. The std exhaust with the Mivi decat will be very loud as there is effectively little to no baffling in either the decat or the std end can. The Leo Vince would be slightly quieter. You can buy a baffle to go in the Mivi which will help a little.

  4. No problem with mine. Leo Vince decat and standard cans sailed through the MOT. My mate has the Mivi decat and standard cans on his bike and went to a different mot station down the road. Passed no probs. Saying that, both stations only do Motorcycles.

  5. Toying with the idea of the Mivv with baffle and the standard silencer. Anyone running this setup?

  6. LeoVince decat and carbon end can. Passed no issue with db killer installed.

  7. This all sounds very promising. It seems the common denominator with all these pipes is the DB killer / baffle

  8. Ducati Wolverhampton use a Ducati friendly MOT station near them.

  9. Yeah, I tried that. Found it was way too loud for me - the standard silencer (I assume you mean the Ducati one) has no baffling in it at all) but try it and see. German MOT tester laughed when i took the bike in with the full Mivv system and I had to put the original back on to get it through.

  10. Indeed, That is my local one. Tony appreciates the finer things in the motorcycling world however I do have a little concern around the balance of attracting too much attention and getting a great sound from the bike.

Ideally I want to be in the position (if i get stopped) of using the MOT certificate as a bit of state sponsored OK ness if that makes sense.

Swapping between the full cat and the decat pipes just for a 45 min test every year sounds like a real ball ache.

I know im being a real girl about this :frown:

  11. An MOT certificate will make no difference to Plod if they consider you have a noisy exhaust and anyway it will almost certainly have an advisory on the certificate for noise.

They would just give you a rectification notice meaning you have to silence it.

  12. I've got a really lenient MOT tester but do most of my miles in mainland Europe and don't want German plod trying to impound my bike as they tried to do with a mates noisy MV. What I really want is something noisier than stock but still quiet enough not to get them running out of the doughnut emporium to get in their cars and chase me when I'm blatting my bike through the Black Forest or similar.

  13. ^^thats exactly the same as my want^^ I have settled on a Mivv with DB killer and standard end pipe cos I like them.

Now to find a pipe, just missed on on ebay :-( sniped by a fiver!
