How do they compare, especially on track? Is the 1200 much better? How is an 1100 S in comparison to a standard abs 1200? Google fails to give time what info I need, be good to hear form those who have owned/ridden both.
No track experience but have owned 1100 (not evo) and currently have a standard 1200. For my uses and riding style the 1200 is better in nearly every way. It is much more comfortable, handles and rides better, has a bigger (steel not plastic) fuel tank and longer range, is quicker if you are in the mood and smoother at low revs when you want to pootle . The only drawback for me with the 1200 is what all fly by wire bikes I have ridden seem to have which is the slight hesitation in initial throttle response compared to the older bikes with a throttle cable. If I had to pick an older monster I would go for one of S2R or S4R as they dont squash your nuts like an 1100 and again you can get them with steel tanks, older ones anyway. I have an early S4R as well as well as the 1200, epic bike.
Was tempted by matey’s S4 on here but too much of a risk at over 2k, and I need a bike that is good to go so I can ride a bit before I ship to Phillip Island in Nov. So needs to be a good starter too lol Do t think I’ll be able to ride my gixer, given my inability to exercise and being too greedy to diet properly so can’t fit the bike any more (plus best trackdays I have had in years, for laughs, was on the multi!)
Agree - but having the motivation is key... I have lost 35KG since 1st January - but weight loss stopped 8 weeks ago... despite not eating much... so now for the last week started excercise (not just the normal walk the dog when I am home) doing a 1200 - 1500 calorie diet and 1200 calories of exercise on the running machine 2 x 45 minute sessions + 2 x 15 minute weight sessions a day.... hopefully that will start it moving again - but its tough getting up at 5.30 before work and doing it inbetween calls in the evening... especially as its hot in the Gym here in China ... despite the hotel having A/C. My motivation came from being told I was going to have to be treated as a diabetic unless i did something...and my mums deteriating health issues.. I was always big - lost weight about 15 years ago (45KG) put it all back on and more...over the last 12 years after stopping exercising after a motorbike accident that kept me from walking properly for nearly 2 years and 3 operations.. even now i have days where it hurts like hell.. but thankfully they are few and far between.. So Bradders if you want any tips...let me know
Thx guys... but I’m looking for reviews on bikes not being told ‘lose weight instead yet fat bastardo’ Having torn my cal most aerobic stuff is out now for a while anyway, so my carefully laid plan of 9 holes 3 nights a week and 18 at the weekend have gone to pot.
try 2 3year old border collies ,walks in morn & night plus 2 agility classes every week, oh & colitis does it for me every time
Sounds like it’s mainly a power thing. I can pick up an S 1100 for 5k, and I did ok with only 65 ho minster so guess a 90hp one will ho,d it’s own mostly Especially as these days I’m inters/slow fast group anyway
Yes, but the tank is a little snug: the monster drives away and give more belly room. Suspect an 899 would be more suited than a street fighter tbh
If the track is more important than the road you might consider an 821 as it has more power than the 1100 and while not as torquey from about 5000rpm I imagine it would pull away quite quickly. Potentially a bargain cat N 821 on Ebay now www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2014-64-DUCATI-MONSTER-M821/323395345659?hash=item4b4bdd5cfb:g:TxwAAOSwrMVbcbqP
821 may be quite a good shout actually. May be something I can remove headlight and other heavy stuff, set of clip ons and 100+ ho with 160kg isn’t too bad,,probably great fun.
I have ridden about 1000 miles on an 821, very nice bikes if slightly lacking in low down grunt compared with the 1100 and especially 1200.
I have an 1100S - I have taken it on track once, just to christen it. It was basically a complete hoot as I just "floored it" everywhere and had fun on it. Standard brakes are shiiiite...upgraded to 4 pad P34's (or whatever they are called). Not exactly a track bike but I had fun on it - handling is fine but ground clearance with standard pegs can be a problem. On the road - it's basically fun all the time. Comfy for me (short-arse 10stone).
