picked up my new 1200DVT Friday from P&H Motorcycles. had rang round several dealers who were giving all sorts of delivery times in the future before I rang Marcus at P&H who had two Multi's on their way, so only placed my deposit 2 weeks ago!!. Definitely recommend P&H Motorcycles, Marcus spent an hour going through every last detail of the bike, from how to check the oil (i probably could have worked that out) to how to change the clocks from MPH to KPH, thoroughly nice bloke. First impressions; Very light and manoeuvrable, I had to suffer mile after mile of filtering on the M25 and the bike was really easy to place and the panniers are slim enough not to cause problems. Screen seemed to keep the worst of the weather off me, but is very noisy no matter what position even with ear plugs! Any ideas? Very easy on and off the centre stand. Its big red and says Ducati on the side (probably the best bit) It definitely sounds like a Ducati…..a good thing. I never rode the old Multi and I'm only limited to 6000RPM but the engine feels strong and lively coming from an 848 evo. The cruise control works very well, however seems to jolt quite firmly when you turn it off, just like it would if you just let go of the throttle. If you give it just a touch of open throttle before you cancel the cruise its as smooth as you like. Everything feels solid and well put together very much the £13K machine. Once its run in and I can open her up I will post again with my thoughts. Enjoy you biking Andy.
Good stuff, so what stuff have you ordered from the dealer & what package did you opt for? Let the blinging begin
I agree with your obs @AndyO, had a quick go on one yesterday, it's definitely different to my 2013 Mut. I think you'll have a surprise when you take it past 6000m though . The gearbox seemed to select better than mine but the wind noise is still the same, I noticed it doesn't like the throttle being blipped between gear changes and the little go I had makes me think it handles better than mine. Standard exhaust sounds better, and most importantly to me, it is lower to the ground. I also had a quick go on a Diavel, that bike surprised me, it has stomp, handles surprisingly well and I was able to get both feet flat on the floor but knees more cramped when feet on the pegs and the note from the standard exhaust is the best I've heard yet.
the regs only apply when the bike leaves the factory gates. you can do what you want afterwards. Its not part of MOT. Similiar to exhausts. Hence even the Desmo and the RS race homologated superbikes even though come standard with full "race exhausts" needs to leave the factory with a standard exhaust with the full system packaged separately for your dealer to fit them.
Picked up my bike on Saturday. Here,s my thoughts from coming off a BMW K1600. She looks in my opinion very beautiful to look at. I could have just sat in the showroom looking at her and not bothered to take her out. The bike is white by the way and I just love that contrasting red frame that sets it off. The display is clear and modern but does contain a lot of info that I'm sure will become standard to read but for now looks complicated. I did wonder when I set off why I couldn't see the Rev counter as I wanted to keep to the recommended revs but didn't realise you can't see it urban mode! The engine was noticeably smoother than the test model I rode in February. Especially at low revs. The sound of the standard exhaust is brilliant. It still vibrates somewhat in comparison to my old bike but it kind of makes it feel alive. I did notice some lag on the throttle response especially in urban and/or when trying to blip for downshift. Power is difficult to determine as I was trying to keep her below 4k for the first hundred miles. But power delivery is there if you snap it open and oh that sound! Cornering is second to none. The thing just tips in effortlessly. To date the handling is my favourite aspect of what is a great bike. Riding position was good and perfectly comfortable but I did feel the seat was pushing me forward into the tank. Not greatly uncomfortable but apparent. I like to ride on the balls of my feet but couldn't get the right foot exactly where I wanted it. Again, I'm pretty sure that it's a get used to it thing. I didn't notice any buffeting - until I took my wife on the back and then we both did. Not sure how that happened but it did and it was both of us that mentioned it. Versus the big K6. Well obviously a very unfair comparison as they are apples and pears. The overall feeling when riding the mutley is one of liberation and sheer joy. I loved it. Yes the Beemer knocks spots off it in some areas but as an exercise of riding for the vibe it brings I'm so happy with the new girl. I mentioned to my wife that it has cornering ability, she said "be careful then". I intend to be.
General advice for the screens is go for a lower one to avoid noise and buffeting. I think a Wunderlich screen topper would also probably cure it (it does on my older version) Wunderlich VarioERGO screen deflector I've bought from P&H in the past, they do churn out a lot of bikes, and Marcus is very nice chap (when he has enough time, he always seems to be in demand)
Got the fork reflectors, they will definitely have to go lol. Really happy with my choice and got one or two blingy ideas some nice carbon to start with, a different screen. TBH tho just want to ride her and get the first service out of the way.
I had a Wunderlich deflector on my 2013, the 2015 is different, the new touring screen is pretty good but still is a bit noisy (for me). Adding the standard Wunderlich is a bit of a problem because the riding position is lower (even with the seat in the high position). When the deflector is on the screen and with the screen and the deflector it in its lowest position you have to look through the deflector. At the moment I have reduced the height of the Wunderlich by cutting out a 35mm slot in the plexiglass so it mounts lower on its bracket. Better to cut a Deflector than the Ducati Screen - less expensive if it doesn't work . A trip later this week will see if it is a good option or not.
