Heated Grip Quesions: 2013 1200s. Factory heated grips. Indicator says they are on and get occasional reminders that they are on but no heat. Checking all 4 terminals at the grips against a good earth shows no real voltage getting to the grips. I have continuity between the grips and close to zero ohms on one grip and about 135ohm on the other. If I was getting 12v on at least one of the connectors I'd be happy to chop off the existing ones and wire in a pair of Oxford grips into the standard wiring but seeing as how I cannot see 12v by the grips I'm not sure the grips themselves are the problem. Could it be the bike has detected them as faulty so not putting any voltage out to them? Anyone know for a fact how these work to save me needlessly stripping half the bike apart to get to the connectors under the tank.
Have seen plenty of posts that would indicate they are a common failure. Can you supply the grips with voltage to see if they work?
Yes a common failure, over time the grips seem to get less effective till they don’t heat at all. Need replacement but maybe non Ducati parts can work for much less ££
My concern is a lack of supply to any of the contacts on the grips. This would suggest either the bike has disabled the output but not flagged an error or something else is broken deeper into the bike. Hence I am looking for any feedback from someone who knows how they work.
My thinking is if you supply voltage From a battery and they heat up then probably fault lies elsewhere. If it does not then you need to get new grips anyway and go from there. An option if no other insight is given.
