1200S gearbox

  1. One thing I noted that I would LOVE to sort on the MTS 1200S if mine has the same, is the gearbox, it's very... Clunky.

From the test rides, it's very spacious if that makes sense, it's not a very tight gearbox. There is one man I know who can work miracles in this department.

Richard at Louigi Moto, he turned my old 748 engine into a masterpiece. When I sold it on, I got a text back from the new owner the same day stating how perfectly smooth the engine and gearbox was. He does fantastic work.

So, I'm thinking of giving him the bike to sort the gearbox out. Anyone else gone through this drastic route? It's expensive but makes a HUGE difference.

  2. I find my MTS is more sensitive to chain tension adjustment than other bikes I've owned (even other V twins).

A few hundred miles ago I rode the bike after a period of not using it and though 'bloody hell this gearbox is clunkier than I remember' and I also got a couple of false neutrals changing down while approaching bends in a "spirited" fashion.

Got home and had a look at the chain and it was bit slack, nothing terrible and still within tolerance, but definitely ready to be adjusted.

Since I've adjusted it back to perfect it's like having a new gearbox and the neutrals (which was a bit of a worry) have all disappeared apart from the one between 1st and 2nd

Might be worth a look, and if it needs doing then follow the manual to the letter and use the little metal guide to get it just right.

  3. Little metal guide? Haha, what on earth is that?

  4. When I first had my '13 Multi, it had some air in the clutch that was causing the box to be really clunky. A bleed (under warranty) sorted it out.
